U.S. attempted rescue of hostages in Syria
The Obama administration announced that earlier this summer, U.S. forces had attempted to rescue kidnapped journalist James Foley and others - but their efforts failed. CNN's Barbara Starr has more.

Intelligence failure? Not necessarily. Suppose ISI? did not know there was an attempt to rescue. Apparently from the onset, they wanted people to know he was a captive. When no one, they assumed, cared enough ... If they begin to believe someone does care, hopefully they will treat others differently.
Intelligence failing (broadcasting the attempted rescue), could be a way of letting people know someone did/does care. Obviously, had the mission succeeded, they would know someone cares. But obviously, it did not, if it was attempted. Or is the broadcasting a ploy? To help all believe someone does care, as always may have been, but was not communicated effectively, enough to secure safety.
Failing or not, a positive communication should be received from the broadcast. A communication affirming America's regard for life.
