It should not be allowed period it is not what the values of the boy scouts were founded on. The princilbes should remain the same Steight and narrow.

Show m ANYWHERE in the Scout Law, Promise/Oath, Motto etc. where it states that Scouting is a "straight and narrow" path. Scouting is about adventure and learning for themselves the best path to follow. To earn their Eagle, each scout undertakes a very unique journey. One in which they must make their own decisions about what is best for them. Sure there are basic requirements for every Scout, but every path to Eagle is not the same. There is NO requirement that a scout must adhere to a specific religion, or in this case a specific interpretation of the Bible. Scouting is NOT based on the Bible and it is not based on the "narrow" -minded values of self righteous christians.

At the surface I had often tried to consider the arguments on both sides of the Boy Scout issue and come to the conclusion that it had no bearing on my life...oh cares, either way, glad I don't have to decide.
Then I read stories of two brothers who had been Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and now that they were going possibly be denied the opportunity to become Eagle Scouts. After all these years of having scouting as a major portion of who they are, this was going to be taken away from them for being gay.
Do our children have to deal with this? Really! As a people our life experiences determine who we are and will be. So as a society its doesn't make sense to ostracize, anyone for their sexual preference, at any age! Not the message or undue stress were should be sending to our youth. As Cub Scouts I doubt they were identifying themselves as gay. Just kids who loved scouting.
As a middle aged African American, heterosexual male, I realized discrimination always has a bearing. On our entire society. All the time. No long history lesson needed. The correlations are kind of obvious. I was a little disappointed that I had been so dismissive.
I'm proud to say I signed the petition to help eliminate that particular protocol of discrimination.

Intolerance of others and bigoted ideals are NOT a part of the Boy Scout Oath and Law. The attributes taught by Scouting are not unique to the Bible. Scouting is not a religious organization. Those who would abandon Scouting based on the private lifestyle of another Scouter show their true colors and never belonged in Scouting in the first place. Scouting existed before religious groups chartered troops and will continue to exist when they quit. Don't let the door hit y'all on the way out.

Those who believe that the Boy Scouts allowing gay youth to join is "bringing sexuality into Boy Scouts" have got it backwards. Remember that a scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. Not all those great attributes plus heterosexual. This change removes sexuality from scouting. I applaud the Boy Scouts.

If the BSA is going to allow gays and lesbians to join, why not make the gay boys join the girl scouts and the lesbians join the boy scouts if they want to play that part. We pulled our cub scout out because of this and we think it's appalling that the gays get every right they want because everyone is afraid of lawsuits by the gays if they don't get what they want when it should be the traditional families suing because all of their rights are completely smashed under the rights of the gays. It's a sad time when families have to make their kids suffer because of this.
