Newspaper's gun permit map causes outcry
A New York newspaper has published a map with gun permit holders' names and addresses. Brian Todd reports.

Complete Non-sequitor. Talk about grasping at straws.
You are right that information in a drawer just like a gun in a drawer does not kill people. Thank you. But the information was not kept in a drawer. It was published on the internet to be seen by anyone and everyone including violent criminals, felons, and others who now know where they can go to obtain a firearm illegally. When a gun is in the drawer of a law abiding citizen it is legal. When it is in the hands of a criminal that obtained it illegally it is illegal. Ask the citizens of Chicago. Since the outset of the Chicago handgun ban, the percentage of Chicago murders committed with handguns has averaged about 40% higher than it was before the law took effect. How many of those murders were committed by law abiding handgun owners again?
I can look at pictures of various guns on the internet all day long and it does not increase the chance of an innocent person or family being assaulted or robbed. Prison guards and their families are already being threatened by inmates. What about them? What about police officers and their families? People in the area who did not have guns are purchasing guns to protect themselves since the chance that they may have their home invaded and possibly be robbed and/or assaulted just went up because of the publication of this map.
I believe if anyone is harmed due to the release of this information in this fashion by “The Journal News” that anyone at “The Journal News” involved in this should be charged with a crime and be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Gun-control law is a dire need to this nation.
We already have gun laws. In the case of the Conn. shooting, Nancy Lanza, the mother of the shooter, decided to circumvent the gun laws and purchased guns for her Asperger son (the shooter, a mentally challenged f'ng...). Nancy Lanza went around the very laws that prevented her son, the shooter, from purchasing these guns in the first place. Secondly, in the Portland Mall shooting, the shooter was taken out by a Conceal and Carry permitted citizen (following current gun laws). So adding more laws or restricting people from having guns like that bimbo Diane Feinstein wants, will only ensure the criminals and the government will have guns. Sorry, but that is not a nation our founding fathers ever wanted, nor would I support. There are reasonable reasons for the People to have Assault rifles, which is another topic for another day.
This is against the 2nd amendment all the way and I do NOT own a weapon.You take the guns out of the hands of good people and the only ones that will always have then are the crooks,crazys,police and government.Is that what all you people want?Do all you goody to shoes want to be under a total house arrest,because that is what will be.GOD BLESS AMERICA,GO USA.WATCH OUT AMERICA what you say you want.Jim Thomas Phx.Az.
Will they now publish the names and addresses of mentally ill people so it can be compared to the list of gun owners?
information doesn't kill people, people with information kill people. If I put this map in a drawer it wouldn't go out and rob people. If it were a crime to have information, then only criminals would have information... I love the smell of hypocrisy in the morning. Smells like victory.
Glad we are on the same page. No need to ban information or guns. I will keep my guns in my drawer and you won't try to take them away. Did it ever occur to you that criminals might use this information to target homes that had guns(when home owner is gone)? Seems like an easy way for a convicted felon to get guns that he would not be able to legally purchase.
