   How can everyone keep missing the mark on GEN Petraeus’ betrayal and subsequent resignation? When he decided to have an affair he knowingly became a cheat and liar. He willingly decided to disrespect his wife as well as Paula Broadwell’s husband. And subsequently, he rightfully has lost credibility and trust. Look, you can’t keep arguing that he and other public figures both past and present have a special set of skills that make them immune from scrutiny. They are not car mechanics and plumbers who we need to do a necessary job without a care for their character. The men and women that we elect and have appointed to care for our security and public interests need to be held to a higher standard. If they are willing to lie to their own spouses and betray their trust, why would they care about misrepresenting or lying to us?

   I think the Petraeus revelations are more about the strict Puritan Ethic in this Country, than any potential harm to National Security. If you are famous or notable there is nothing so rare as a tidy affair. All Petraeus can do now is Repent Publicly and twist in the wind till the sensation blows away. Thats the way it works here in Puritan Land.
