CNN's Suzanne Kelly reports on the controversial use of omnipresent camera systems in major U.S. cities.
I was appalled by the denigrating comment on a morning news programme regarding Vice-President Biden (drunk uncle, etc.) regarding his "chain" comment. Shackle and chain are synonyms...and to see the comment as an Afro-American allusion is ridiculous. Afro-Americans were freed from chains by the Act of Emancipation 1863 unless they encountered the crazies: KKK and white supremists. But, work gangs for prisoners existed in the 20th century. Often Unions used slogans involving chains in the fight for better working conditions, wages etc. The most famous of the "chained to your job...to your desk" slogans was Trotsky's , " Workers of the world unite, you have nothing to lose, but your chains." There was absolutely nothing racial in Biden's statement. Biden was/is an outstanding legislator. He was on the judiciary committee that selected Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court despite the Hill allegations. He was a diligent and honourable senator. Oh, and in case anyone has missed the fact...the President is Afro-American. I love their joie de vivre! Also, remember the Mormon Church did not allow Afro-Americans to hold the priesthood until 1978. Actually, as a Canadian, it is not my place to comment, but I hope Obama and Biden win the election as the world needs leaders astute in international history and law...and not to forget Hilary's tremendous international diplomacy. Amazing what the White House has accomplished given their inheritance. I enjoy CNN, especially the Situation Room.
Bravo for knowing your history, pity so many Americans and broadcasters do not.
Wolf how do you address the conundrum of Ryans cuts to Medicaid with his statement that his plan will not affect current seniors . This is a crucial point and will affect those 65 and older NOW Ryans proposal for another federal program Medicaid, the joint federal-state health insurance program would have an impact on those seniors who rely on Medicaid to help pay for Nursing Home Care. As the Kaiser Family Foundation has noted, Medicaid is the nations largest source of coverage for long-term care, covering more than two-thirds of all nursing home residents and the elderly and disabled account for roughly two‐thirds of Medicaid spending. So his proposals will affect those currently 65 and older will it not and when they may need it most too.
Wolf is Romney Super Pac paying you......you are sooooooooo republican I thought CNN was fair...............come on Wolf maybe Obama Super Pac could pay you more
These tapes that one sees at malls and stores is done by the stores for security. Its not governmental intervention in our lives. I am always pleasantly surprised to see when a kidnap victim is found because of identity of the kidnapper or pictures of his car help identify them. If I am in a situation such as that, I would dearly love to have it on tape.
To use these cameras in an attempt to arrest someone or further search their homes or businesses was settled in SCOTUS Kyllo v United States. This would constitute an warranted search or seizure. But, if the police are using it in public areas to deter criminal activity or detect possible activity then this is just part of the notion that we must give up certain rights to be protected. Are the police completely changing your route to work or asking you to carry a camera, no. They are only telling you to keep calm and carry on! Maybe put on some makeup!
If it makes the USA safer,so be it but I do believe our government has goton way to big and needs to be cut down to half of what they are,cut their wages in half, and they only get the same benefits that little joe blow gets.Jim Thomas Phx.Az.
Wow – did she Kelley just say realistic? That it isn't realistic that we aren't watched in our day-to-day lives? I bet if people put cameras in our houses, she would say, "It isn't realistic that we should have privacy in our own homes." It is pathetic that we can be watched like this. Bad reporter. Quite superficial, an example of the dinosaur of old media becoming quickly fossilized under the bulk of the changing era.
Bloomberg needs a speaking coach. Whenever he reads from text, he sounds like a second grader announciating one syllable at a time.
