A paralyzed war veteran says a hotel worker in Texas mocked his request for help down a flight of stairs.
Never again ever will I stay at a best Western motel EVER!!! I've heard about this for a little over a week now and I've shared this with a lot of people. It's a poor excuse for a company to just fluff it off like they are doing. Had a call last night from a friend that canceled his 3 week stay at a best (worst) western and went to another place. he travels 36 weeks a year and stayed at best westerns all the time. He said he will never even think about going there ever again. It's not worth his time if the staff won't bend for a disabled person. He said if they don't care about people why give that chain any money at all. best western you and your staff messed up big time!!!
Medicare: The proposal of Medicare changes, voucher program it is not a good idea, for younger americans under 55 because:
1) A healthy adult can chose a voucher, maybe initially will need to pay a minor monthly difference, but if the person became ill, the premiums from the private insurance companies would extremely increase. In this situation, the person will lost the private insurance, because is unable to pay the exorbitants premiums.
2) The cost of medical care, exponential increase and the voucher would not cover for all the medical cost, even to a healthy person.
3) If the person has a medical condition, and the optimal treatment for that condition is not available in the state that the patient lives, local private insurances companies would not authorize out-state medical treatments. Or if is authorizes, only after overcome a lot of "red-tape" risking the life of the patient.
Comment: it is easy to think "I am healthy, let me take the voucher" humans don't think that we are healthy today, and possible deathly ill tomorrow. When this happen, we the taxpayer, will continue paying the bills.
These are one of the reasons that Medicare should stay with the same principle that is function now. Definite, needs some modifications in the program, but the voucher proposal for Americans under 55, is not the answer.
Disgusted and appalled by both the incident and the hotel chain's weak apology, refusing to accept any blame and saying that their staff was "afraid of hurting him" by assisting him down the stairs. One hopes that this policy is not in place during a fire. As if a voucher for a free stay or whatever will excuse Holly the desk clerk's behavior. How was she raised that she has no sense of compassion for a disabled person, and no respect for a wounded warrior. I will remember this incident and will never stay in a Best Western ever again.
The PR and damage control folks/execs @TheBestWestern should inculcate some transparency and genuine concern for customers.
If I were in charge, I'd ensure: 1. Offer to refund stay (as they already did) OR offer the customer 3+ free stay vouchers (i.e. keep the customer); 2. written apology from chain's top execs; 3. amend chain's policy on rooms for handicapped; 4. demand explanation from that specific hotel and post it publicly; 5. openly post the mistake on Twitter and explain how it's being fixed.
I understand that the nation is still in Olympic obsession mode, but people need to demand better customer service and more transparency from the corporations – at lthe very east to those who served their nation in war, instead of pulling strings to keep out of active warzones (yeah, I know that'll touch some nerves in Texas).

This something that should not happen in the USA let alone in Texas, I have seen this before I am from the Viet Nam era when when mocking a Vats was very come in does days, it was not cool say you were a Viet Nam vat in those day, we have come along way but we still have a way to go and being from Texas this hurts me more to see a paralyzed Vat being mocked by someone who dose care for our USA veterans
