Washington (CNN) - Republican sources say they're in a Catch-22 situation on how to reply to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's claims that GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney went 10 years without paying taxes.
They understand that they're taking Reid's bait and that responding to his unsubstantiated claims against Romney keeps alive the issue of Romney's refusing to release his tax returns.
There is always a reason why people hide their tax returns, Romney's professional ethics and attitude toward tax compliance obligations is one. No man or women running for president of the US is not to big to show his tax returns, Sen Reid is right in asking for Romney tax returns.
Senator John McCain has seen Romneys tax returns via the 2008 VP vetting process. McCain said recently that there is nothing disqualifying in Romneys tax returns. It still leaves the question open, whether Romney paid nill or close to nill taxes in one or more years, in the last couple of decades. Romney should have released his tax returns right from the get go. To do anything less would amount to Romney self disqualifying himself for the Presidency.
Keep up the good work Sen. Reid. Romney is super Rich but running for office of president of US is bigger then his riches.
Romney and tea party and the GOP wants to change tradition and have Romney not present his tax return and Bain Capital,
I think Romney never change his license with the SEC and ran the corporation as a silent CEO to present, when you put your license inactive you cannot be part of the corporation and its profits, its the law of the SEC commission, I think Romney never stop being the license of Bain Capital. The corporation by it self can not be license with SEC, only a life person with a license can be.Being an Honest Indian has come back hunt Romney.
When are the politicans going to get with the biggest problems this country has ever had..Like wasted government spending, economy, overpaid, crooked politicans, putting killers in jail for life so my tax money pays to feed them instead of firing squads? This is just a few problems. If you want me to name some more, let me know.Jim Thomas Phx.Az.
I will state once again if you beleive Harry Reid then you must also agree President Obama is behind the death of Brian Terry because he won`t release the records that maybe could prove otherwise. The sad thing here which all you so called brilliant reporters are missing is that there is a rule that on the Senate floor you allowed to lie with no consequences.
In response to John, it's probable that virtually all Americans know that Romney is hiding his cheating on his tax returns. McCain says he knows but he too is dishonest and is probably senile. What I remember about McCain is his running around W Washington like a chicken with it's head cut off in Sept.-Oct. in 2008.and the republican economist -Graham -right by his side. All that really can be said is that republicans are getting dumber and dumber as in Sarah Bachman.
Isn't the real story Romney's integrity and character – Release the tax filings Romney – the only real story is why hasn't Romney released his tax filings – who cares what the Republicans say to Sen Reid
