Blitzer to interview Donald Trump

On the same day that Donald Trump is teaming up with Mitt Romney for a fundraiser, President Barack Obama's campaign is highlighting what it calls Romney's "refusal" to condemn Trump's continued highlighting of the "birther" conspiracy.

Donald Trump will Join Wolf Blitzer today at 4pm ET in "The Situation Room" on CNN to discuss his appearance with Romney and his stance on the "birther" issue.

Why is trump and the GOP excepting Romney because he is Mexican American his dad was born in a Mexican so that make Romney a Mexican America, nothing wrong with it until the Texas, Arizona and other states find out.

I just wish Wolf and CNN would search the archives and find the tape of Donald Trump being interviewed on CNN (by I think Wolf) In that interview Donald Trump said that the economy always seems to do better under a democratic administration. This was in 2004 when Bush was running against John Kerry. I remember this so clearly because it made me feel more positive towards Trump. Now he is embarrassing himself, Romney, the GOP and his family. How sad.

It hard to see Mitt Romney kiss up to Donald Trump. Is this showing his business experiences kissing up to people
to do business with and he says he against gay?

The question should be who will be a leader that can actually lead? In my opinion President Obama has been a calm effective leader who has proven that he can get along with other leaders . He and the First Lady have been very effective
in the time of his Presidential tenure. President Obama has done well even in the face of adversity with the Republican party's distracting and annoying ways. This going back and forth is propaganda cooked up by the Right, and it shows the level of maturity that we are seeing at play. We don't need this selfish, arrogant, and devious behavior in a White House for the next 4 yrs.

This story will destroy you and CNN – Wolf, Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his detectives will destroy all of liberal media. The whole lie about Obama will come out and you are all complicit, in something 1000 times bigger and worse then Watergate. Just wait.

I am so disgusted with the garbage about the President's bc.c. Really, people?? I am NOW officially done with the GOP, (& Trump and his tv shows, casino, etc) going tomorrow and CHANGING my party to DEMOCRAT, INDEPENDENT, any thing but REB! ...and this white, conservative Christian, middle aged, professionally trained female will proudly stand up and vote AGAIN for President Obama. We may not agree 100% on all views but I agree more with him than the other choice. By the way, I have the SAME EXACT birth certificate from the Territory of Hawaii when I was born in Queen's hospital in 1954! Some uneducated people considered me an alien even tho my dad was US military!

Obama is not a natural born citizen!!!! Kenya and Hawaii don't matter anymore!!! Both parents have to be natural born to be the president. This man is a fraud. The country is in danger!

To me this birther issue is an insult to both the hawaiian! as well as the president's mother who is long dead. Is calling the people of hawaii lairs as well as the presidents late mother. where i come from it is wrong to disrespect the dead. How would trump feel if people start disrespecting his father by saying that his father was not his real father. I s ok to disagree with the president's policies and all. But to continue attacking him with his birth cert or place of birth is way out off order and very rude. THIs HAS TO STOP!. maybe, the governor of hawaii needs to address this. Or Even the President's sisters. I can't immagin any one disrespecting my mother dead or alive.

"the framers thought it wise to provide that the president should at least be the child of citizens owing allegiance only to the US at the time of birth." He goes on to say that the the eligibility of the president "was scarcely intended to bar the children of American citizens, whether born at sea or in foreign territory."

"the framers thought it wise to provide that the president should at least be the child of citizens owing allegiance only to the US at the time of birth."

to define a third class of citizen applicable only to the eligibility to hold the office of president.

to define a third class of citizen applicable only to the eligibility to hold the office of president.

to define a third class of citizen applicable only to the eligibility to hold the office of president.
      ///////////////////////////////////////////////// AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/////////////////////////////////////...

It's crazy. I know. The founders did not care about a citizen for president but they especially cared wether that citizen was natural born. We are doing it backward looking at ONLY the citizenship and overlooking the NATURAL BORN part. I know I did the same thing. This is SERIOUS.

      WAKE!!!!!!! UP!!!!!!!!!

No one asks why Obama waited three years to produce that copy of Certificate of a Live Birth , not the Birth Certificate. Why didn't he show it to Mc Cain when asked in 2008? Why the secrecy? CNN should discuss if the law indeed requires TWO citizen parents in order to run for office. Really...and yes, I voted for BHO.

    May 29, 2012 at 6:24 pm |
    • Clint

The law does not require that both parents be U.S. citizens, only that the person running for president, be born in the U.S. If there was such a law, then you better start question Mitt Romney's qualification for the POTUS. His father George was born in Mexico, and therefore a Mexican citizen. And, Mexican law, would have allowed Mitt's parents or Mitt, himself, to apply for Mexican citizenship for Mitt, if Mitt was born in the U.S. Does Mitt have dual citizenship? Or was Mitt even born in the USA?

      May 29, 2012 at 8:40 pm |
    • Clint

Raoul, many republicans have called for Romney to pick Marco Rubio to be his running mate. You'll have a field day when you find out that both of Rubio's parents were born in Cuba.

      May 30, 2012 at 1:32 am |
    • Clint

And, let's not forget about Louisiana governor, jindal, another Republican favorite. Both of his parents are from India.

      May 30, 2012 at 1:39 am |
    • Adam

Well then, that would preclude Romney from running for president as his father was born in Mexico! And no, the constitution does not require your parents to be citizens of the United States, it does however require that the President of the United States be born on U.S. soil. If your parents were both from Russia and on vacation in the United States while your mother was pregnant with you, and gave birth to you here, you too would be eligible. McCain was actually born in Panama, but because he was born on a U.S. Military base and this is considered to be U.S. soil, he was eligible.

Wolf. I will not vote for Obama same as I did not in 2008, after reading his two books and researching the Chicago papers. None of his history checks out with certified documents or timing of Kenya, English rule, or U.S. records. Until Obama releases his records and they are fully documented, I do not believe Democrats, Media, or Candidates supporters. Why do you accept. Famous quote fits this: Trust but verify. You and others have not done this, so you have no validity until you do. And don't label me a birther, or hater. I have right to my opinions, and votes and I cannot trust you or anyone I know little of. I respect the Presidency, but this individual has not done anything to earn my respect. Hope and Change does not work, just as promising to see Veterans receive all benefits they earned. I am a veteran of 26 years, and his policies have and will take away from my benefits, to give them to others. I earned my benefits in 1950-1976 era, through Korean, cold war, Vietnam eras, working parttime jobs in addition to my military duties to support my family. No foodstamps, unemployment, with low pay, slow promotions, and long absences. Shame on all of you.

What about REPUBLICAN Linda Lingle, who was governor of Hawaii in 2008? She was able, as governor to look at the official records at the State of Hawaii's Dept. of Health. After doing so, she confirmed that Obama was born in Hawaii. And, may I remind you that Gov. Lingle campaigned for McCain/Palin in 2008.

There was a story last week that got little or no coverage on most stations where the teacher bullied a student and misinformed her class on freedom of speech and miranda rights. She allowed her class to slam Romney and Bush but not Obama saying it was illegal. This got millions of internet hits but no tv coverage. We don't even have to give the list of bias media anymore do we? Obama gets softballs from most of the media, it's unbelievable.

Donald Trump has no credibility at all....But, you Mr. Bltzer are losing yours by continuing to give him a platform for his senseless rantings. The country is trapped in unnecessary declared & undeclared wars; two right wing governments have been defeated are in Europe; a tinpot dictator is thumbing his nose at the world by slaughtering his own people, and the "powers" of the world are "persuading" him to be a nice guy by expelling his diplomats; the economy is in a mess thanks to the conspiracy on Wall Street that started decades ago when they sneaked from behind and repealed Glass Stegall; a private citizen named Norquist has tied up legislatures across the country by forcing Republican candidates to an illegal pledge that forces them to vote against any revenue raising (yes, taxing) proposals, and I could go on and on...while you with your professorial countenance engage this egomaniac billionaire on your topic of the day...the ever irrelevant issue of Mr. Obama's birth!
Get a life Mr. Blitzer, and come back to being a journalist!

    May 29, 2012 at 6:09 pm |
  13. Raoul M.

Wolf disappoints in the name of bias journalism. Why didn't he mention the earlier book where Obama was listed as born outside the USA? Did he use that excuse just to get a government grant for college? Why did he ban passport records once in office? He admits to traveling to Pakistan in 1981 yet that country was on a No travel list for USA s o he had to travel with either a UK or Indonesian passport that would show his birth date and place. well?? Why has the admiin. spent $900,000. to seal records of his school records? Why the secrecy?

    May 29, 2012 at 6:09 pm |
    • Clint

Raoul, you might want to do some research on this. The statement that Barack Obama was born in Kenya, was not in a book, but in a publisher's note, which was in error. You keep making stuff up, as you don't want to spend the time doing the research to learn the facts.

I listened to the interview. The only reason this subject won't die is because some reporters won't let it. Trump obviously did not want to, but the political bias is now starting to show. Following the Obama campaign strategy of directing the attention away from this administration's abismal performance on the economy to any ridiculous issue that can be latched onto.

Classic CNN. Rather than discuss the issues that really affect the people–economy, foreign trade relations, national debt, etc–they interview a leading business authority and spend the time talking about a side issue that should have been researched in depth BEFORE the last elections. I doubt he is not an US citizen but like Obamas association with left radicals (Wright and Ayers) he was simply not vetted in the runup to the last election. Now when he has failed the country the likes of Blitzer would rather talk about every possible diversion possible rather than address the sad shape our nation is now in. Wolf Blitzer should have taped to his forehead-"this message is approved by Barack Obama".

Can someone on CNN please ask D.Trump what his "investigators" had dug up in Hawaii when he had sent them there? He wildly claimed that "they cannot believe what they're finding...". He said he had people "studying and they cannot believe what they're talking". If no one asks him,he's going to come back every year whenever his show is ending/beginning or releasing DVDs. Also, why doesn't D.Trump question Gov.Romneys' birth record because clearly Gov.Romneys' father was born outside of the US as well.

However, the birth announcements in the two Hawaii papers were taken from the microfiche files, and not from the internet. So, someone from the future, when they developed a time machine, would have had to go back in time to put fake birth announcements in the (then) two Honolulu papers. And then they would have brain wash Republican Gov. Linda Lingle, to say that Barack Obama was born in Hawaii, after she reviewed the actual birth records. Plus, they had to get the conservative judges of the U.S. Supreme Court to reject hearing anything about Obama's eligibility to be POTUS.

Rommey's father was born and raised in Mexico, does that make Mitt Mexican? That's what I'm thinking...

The funniest hing is that our laws require a presidential candidate to come from two parents born and with American citizenship. Barack says in all his books, that his father was born in Kenya and was never a USA citizen. The DNC with Nancy Pelosi signed the eligibility form when he was a candidate in 2008. It says,"...meets the eligibility requirements of the State of Hawaii." All the other past candidates have that form stated as " meets the eligibility according to the Constitution of the United States of America." Maybe Nancy and the D. party knew the truth but was CYA by changing the wording?

Even if Mitt Romney was born in the U.S. (something we don't know is true, as he has never shown the American public his birth certificate), he, or his parents, could have file for dual (Mexican) citizenship. I would like to head Mitt renounce any claim to his right to become a Mexican citizen. The fact that Romney doesn't like to talk about his Mexican father, strikes me as odd, as you would think he would like to appeal to the Hispanic voters, by saying he has a Mexican father. What is Mitt Romney hiding?

Read some of the rush transcript and saw snippet of the Trump interview. Gotta hand it to the Wolfman; he actually challenged Trump on his idiocy. Normally, when someone says something blatantly untrue or dishonest, Blitzer ignores it and moves on.

Mr Blitzer I am a fan of your show and you but I was disappointed with you and your interview with Mr. Trump. To me I felt Mr. trump answered your question very clearly but you kept badgering him on the same question. To make matters worse, afterwards, you tried to excuse your actions by blaming Mr. Trump for the interview not being successful when it was clear to me you were the reason. I was and am disappointed in you. You need to own uo to your mistakes and learn from them and not blame your failures on others.

Wolf I saw the interview!!! I am a naturalized citizen. If a baby is born outside the USA to American parent(s) why would they not be natural citizens? Does that mean any baby born abroad to US service personnel, diplomats, government workers or charity workers would not be entitiled to run for President? Seems a pretty diabolical interpretation of the Constitution to me!

Mr. Obama's father was not a citizen. That is why the place of birth is important.

      May 29, 2012 at 5:34 pm |
      • Clint

Why? If Barack was born in the USA, then his father's place of birth wouldn't matter. On the other hand, if it did matter, then you'd have to look at Mitt Romney's eligibility to be president, as his father was born in Mexico, and therefore a Mexican citizen.

Today's interview with Wolf Blitzer and Donald Trump is further proof of how excellent Blitzer is as a journalist because he knows how to control an interview. I thought Donald Trump was a realestate developer mainly. He keeps showing up in politics. I am sick of hearing him talk about the birther issue. I don't want to hear him talk about jobs, China and ect. I think at this point in both campaigns the public would rather hear the candidates do that, unless he's running for an office of some kind on the back side of Romney's campaign. Check out the picture of their planes on the runway as Romney arrives in Nevada. Trump upstages him. What an ego! Romney may live to regret this "Trump of cash".

I don't know where Obama was born, and neither does Wolf Blitzer. CNN to me is the only source of old school t.v. journalism where there is an attempt to be fair and balanced. This extensive slam job on Donald Trump was fomented from Wolf's personal opinions rather than newsworthiness, and only makes CNN appear like another biased news service. I hope you reconsider doing this kind of thing in the future. If you feel Donald Trump is a fraud, thats fine. But keep your perspective, keep it newsworthy, and don't lower yourself to what you feel is Trump's level. You went on to call him ridiculous. You were going after him on other points. You went on way too long. You both look the same to this viewer, and the difference is, Trump isn't paid to be unbiased.

I have never heard so much BS from anyone than I have heard from Donald Trump on CNN. While he was stringing everyone along while pretending to be offering his candidacy for President he trashed the Chinese for taking American jobs and explaned that he would put a stop to it if he was President. Well a little while ago his wife was up in Toronto representing the Trump organization and stating that they planned to establish a chain of exclusive hotels in Chinese cities. Now is that two faced or what? I'm thinking that Mr Romney should pass up Trump's money and keep his distance from Donald Trump to preserve his chances for the Presidency.

  33. Mike L.

Wolf – Instead of your usual bias, why don't you try doing some investigation on the "birth" issue in Hawaii. Like questions: Has a document expert ever examined Obama's long form certificate? Is there any record anywhere in Honolulu of Obama's mother checking into a hospital around Aug. 4, 1961? What exactly are the requirements in checking out the source of so-called birth announcements? Wolf – Put on your investigative journalist hat and take off your Obama supporter hat, and do your job. If the evidence comes out in your favor then great, but if it doesn't, then you owe Trump an apology.

Wolf, have you ever checked into why they say he has several social security numbers and why the social security # doesn't match that of Hawii. Instead of condemning the people who have doubts why don't you do some investigating yourself and clear all this up once and for all! Obama is the one that started this mess by not coming out first and Hillary Clinton for saying and other people that he was not born in the USA. You have a very lazy investigating report by just saying Hawii say's he was born in Hawii. Quite a few other people have way more information that he wasn't than you do! Research it for all.

Equating Donald Trump's birtherism with Maher's "comments" is a cop-out. Maher stated an opinion; Trump is continuing to present a lie as if it were a true fact. It is fine to say Maher's remarks are offensive, but using the Big Lie to intentionally deceive people as to the truth rises the level of evil. Remember who invented this technique.

Here's what I don't get: if conservatives' ideas are better than others, why do they feel such a need to intentionally deceive? The ideas should be able to stand on their merits.

And, why are you parroting the conservatives' mantra of "return the money"? When has any candidate or party done that? Besides, Romney has yet to collect the money from the Trump event. Since he disagrees with Trump on birther issue you should exhort him to turn the money down. Much easier than returning it.

    May 29, 2012 at 4:43 pm |
  37. Allen Becker

Why are you arguing with Trump on what "other" people have said etc. Can Donald produce any proof or evidence that Obama was born in any country other than the U.S. Does he have a sworn affidavit from a credible source certifying that Obama was not born in the U.S.? His publisher says? Are you kidding me. By the way, I am a Republican and I know what conservatism is.

Look at Passport records from 1981 and ask why Obama used his executive order to seal his passport records once into office or why all of his school records were sealed? Secrecy on these matters makes him look suspicious. Recall it was Bill Clinton who said in 2008, " (Obama) this is a fairy tale." What did he know that the media wouldn't discuss?

Please try to provide a more balanced approach to your reporting. Condemning Mitt Romney for Donald Trump's opinion of where the president is born is unfair. Mr. Romney has made his opinion clear. Why give Trump airtime for such an unfounded position. The media shouldn't be in the entertainment business. Be more professional CNN and don't stoop to Trump's level.

I agree Trump is wrong on the birther issue. But Wolf wasted a lot of airtime rehashing the issue. I would have preferred hearing Trump's business viwpoint on jobs, China, and OPEC, as planned. The thing that is so overtly pathetic about Mr. Trump and the birther's is that this position indicates that they feel that
this election can't be won by the Republicans unless they promote this issue. Why can't they just let the election be fair and
based on issues? They are too afraid to do that. They know Romney is so weak. But all this does is make Trump and Romney look more foolish, and less confident than that they usually do. And honestly Woolf, maybe you just need to not even give Trump a platform. That's all he really wants is the publicity. Keep him off the air.

Astonished at your interview today with Trump. He reiterated many times they spoke of the jobs, the economy, and China. You completely missed the point of today's news, and went elsewhere. Report the news! I will never watch CNN again. Find something you are good at!

    A very educated Ken

Wolfe, I can't believe you continued to interview Donald Trump even after he insulted you by saying you have very few people watching your show. The guy was backed into a corner when he continued to say the president's birth cirtificate was a fraud even though he has absolutely no evidence to support that claim other than the right wing rumor mill and right wing radio.

Very Good interview with thrump, You did not miss a point, only thing I could think of was perhaps you should have mentioned Obamas record in creating jobs. Other than that, you scored a 100. a great fan of your

Ok, anyone born of an American citizen, anywhere in the universe is an American citizen. John Mccain was born in Okinawa. Is he a citizen? Mitts dad–born in Mexico, what about him? Arrg! And good old Donal have had 4 of his companies file bankruptcy and a regular middle class American cannot get a refinance on their home. It is time for some common sense and of course it is not going to come from a joke like Donald

Wow, Trump sounded like a broken record player and lacked legitimate evidence to back up his statements, not to mention he was extremely rude to Wolf.

Trump is a JOKE. Romney is a coward for not calling Trump the JOKE that he is. But I guess if you want to raise money from donors who might buy into the notion that Romney is a "Leader", then you might trot out the "birther" lingo again and see who shows up at the door. After the fund raiser, Trump will try to sell them the Brooklyn Bridge, and I'm sure they'll but that too.
Why does CNN insist on giving these flakes more and more air time? I feel like our Constitution is coming apart at the seams. In just a few years we've spiraled down further from "I am not a witch" to a 50+ year supposed birth conspiracy. The GOP loyalty test is to tell you that 2 plus 2 equals 7 – "because we told you it is". How does anyone this side of sanity listen to this crap for even 1 day.

When the Birther issue first came up in 2008, the governor of Hawaii was Linda Lingle, a REPUBLICAN. As governor, she was able to personally review the actual birth records at the Hawaii Dept. of Health. Gov. Lingle confirmed that Barack Obama was born in Hawaii. And, Linda Lingle actively campaigned for the McCain/Palin ticket, which angered many Hawaii residents.

It doesn't matter if you believe Trump or not Wolfe. But Wolfe, you need to stop making news and just report it. I don't care if YOU agree with Trump or not. In fact, if you don't agree please provide your exhaustive research through documentation and interview that proves what you are looking to prove, Obamas birth place. Not just interviews of Obama supporters either. PS – Racist attack, really? How does where you are born have anything to do with being racist? You should be ashamed Wolfe.

You should tell that to FOX News. They make up stuff all the time, and when they get caught, they claim they made a mistake.

    Wolf !!!!!
Please please do not lower yourself to interview Donald Trump ever again. Today's interview was the most convincing
piece to prove what most of the world believes. This "man" is beneath you and CNN! I am ashamed to admit that HE was probably born in the U.S. and that makes him an American Citizen. I watch you daily, respect you, and beg you not to waste a session on another person of Donald Trump's standard. The Guy is a Joke and Disgrace to our Country!
    Respectfully,

Mr. Blitzer, Why is that he can say 2 statements and you do not follow up.
He said that he didn't need to know the Gov of Hawaii is a republican – he released the birth certificate. He continued saying he didn't need to know these things. My mind as a curious citizen (who relies on reporters to think also) would have asked him that if he is looking for the truth should he not be concerned with all the facts?

The last time when Donald needed viewers for his upcoming show and floated the idea that he'd run for president, he brought up these things that people said about Obama's birthplace and not a single reporter to date has ever asked him for proof or to talk with those people?!?!?!

Then concerning George Will – Why not point out that Donald always personally attacks ANYONE who disagrees with him; there's a long list of well-known people this has happened to.

Find someway to show him for the blowhard he is, the fact that he always makes up facts and no one ever has the balls to follow up with those point. This is not good reporting. This is incomplete reporting.

Facts: The Gov of Hawaii is NOT a republican – he first released a copy_ of the certified " certificate of live birth ." Not the Birth Certificate. And it came THREE years after the initial request. ..and no one knows or asks WHY the delay? No one asks why is BHO listed as a foreign student in the earlier publications, with his awareness of that detail.

      May 29, 2012 at 6:37 pm |
      • Clint

Raoul, the CURRENT governor of Hawaii, is a democrat, however, he was not the one who released the long form of Obama's certificate of live birth. The President had to request a copy of it, and then sent a representative to go to Hawaii to pick it up. It was Former Hawaii governor, REPUBLICAN Linda Lingle who had viewed the records, and she gave a statement that Obama, had in fact been born in Hawaii. You might want to go check the news from 2008 for yourself, instead of making stuff up.

Mr. Blitzer, from where I am (Dominican Republic) it looked like you were at your best with Trump today. It amazes me how you can handle such a ridiculous person (using an adjective you used correctly in your interview) with such professionalism and class. Please, Mr. Blitzer, let Geraldo Rivera interview this guy. You are so above this stuff.

    Best Regards.

Your interview with Donald Trump just now was outstanding! Taking complete control and forcing him to deal with his ridiculous birther views on live TV was a true public service, and praiseworthy journalism.

Wolf Blitzer should have brought up the fact that then Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle, who is a republican, and who actively campaigned for McCain/Palin, viewed the birth records, and stated that Barack Obama was in fact born in Hawaii.

I wish that all of the news media would stop giving Donald Trump any time to spout his ugly and ignorant rants about President Obama and/or China. He does not serve this country well on any level with his ignorant statements.

  58. the only person interested in Trump is Trump

Why is Wolfe even having this discussion with Trump. This issue about where Obama was born is old and worn and Trump has never been able to substatiate his accussations. He is rude, talks over the interviewer, never answers questions and just wants to get on CNN and rant to discredit Obama. There are many others with something vauable to contribute – why do you keep revisiting this dead issue with Trump. Surely America has more to worry about going into this election than where Obama was born. Let's get back to the real issues Wolfe you are a better journalist than this and don't need this on the air.

Can 'The Donald", the ignoramus, actually produce proof that 'his people' found anything relevant to this 'stain in the carpet' issue of the presidents brithplace? I think he is exactly what Will called him: An ignoramus trying to edge into politics. This guy is a buffon. and as a jobless veteran, born in Kenya, with 2 combat tours, i can only wonder how people even listen to the trump. Plus..he has no clue about real life issues! I know more people who watch CNN and i can even name them...unlike the Donald!!! what a lame'ist!

I thought Wolf Blitzer did a wonderful job handling Donald Trump tonight as he was once again ranting about a mute point.(BCert)I shudder to think of a country in which these type of men think that they know what is best for the country. They may know how to fatten their own bank accounts but they haven't any real desire in my opinion to help 99% of the citizens of this country. I wonder if President Obama was 100% white instead of half ,would Trump be harassing him over the origin of his Hawaian birth certificate? President Obama should not be treated this way.He has done wonderfully considered what he walked into 3 1-2 yrs. ago.

    May 29, 2012 at 4:18 pm |

Actually, Trump does NOT wear clothes made in China and China is known for stealing trade names to push off merchandise. Stealing American manufacturing patents is their other claim to fame since 1989. (CBO) report)
