By CNN's Wolf Blitzer
(CNN) – President Obama’s campaign has released a powerful new 60-second ad touting his accomplishments since taking office. It points specifically to the U.S. auto industry coming back, the killing of Osama bin Laden, the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, and the improving U.S. economy. “Instead of losing jobs,” the announcer on the ad says, “we’re creating them – over 4.2 million so far.”
Those are all good points.
But in that ad, the Obama-Biden campaign once again failed to mention what is arguably the administration’s No. 1 legislative achievement over the past three-and-a-half years: the health care reform law.
I also noticed that the president really didn’t spend much time praising his health care achievement in his two lengthy campaign speeches on Saturday in the swing states of Ohio and Virginia. There were some very brief passing references, including the law’s allowing 2.5 million young people to stay on their parents’ insurance plans and denying insurance companies the right to have “unchecked power to cancel your policy or deny you coverage or charge women differently from men.”
Those, too, are certainly good points.
But what I didn’t hear was a robust statement taking credit for pushing the Affordable Health Care Act through Congress.
Maybe that’s because polls have shown that the health care law is not all that popular. Most on the right don’t like the federal mandates requiring everyone to purchase health insurance if they can afford the premiums. Others, on the left, don’t believe that the law goes far enough; they would have preferred a government-sponsored single-payer option along the lines of what Canada has.
But if the president is truly proud of his legislative achievement, why isn’t he singing its praises loudly and clearly?
One reason may be the U.S. Supreme Court. It is supposed to decide next month whether the health care law’s mandates are in fact constitutional. Many court watchers believe the justices will rule against the president, based on what they heard during the oral arguments. That would certainly be embarrassing.
Based on history, I know those question-and-answer sessions can be misleading, and I’m not ready to make a prediction.
Having said that, I still wonder why the president and his top aides have not been more forceful in taking credit for the health care law.

Most do not know that in the 40's D.C. had very good schools. If yur paentrs worked for the Gov't. you could attend school in D.C. and many from Va. And Md. did so, In 1948 this was stopped. I was not affected as Iwent to Catholic schools through 9th grade, but many of my friends attended jr. HS and HS in D.C. The question that needs to be asked is WHY Maryland and Virginia schools improved and D.C. schools deteriated?? I do not believe Fed. Gov't. should be interfering with states rights, but I do believe ALL states need to take a long, long look at the schools, see what is being taught,or not taught, find out WHY it cost MORE to educate a child in public school than in Catholic school.
say what you want about carter, when he was president you could go into any store in america and buy anYthing from cloths to washing machines the tag would say MADE IN AMERICA .thanks to the republican party starting with reagan, bush one and two and democrat clinton MADE IN CHINA.at least obama is trying to get MADE IN AMERICA.but the republicans are fighting it every in of the way
dont the republicans know that there disrespect of the presidency is bad for foriegn policy, dont they realize that the russians and the chinese are laughing at us because the republicans are doing what they could'nt. destroy the u.s. economy.
We love our President Obama, but if he supports Gay Marriage he has lost the Christian world!!!There is no such thing as using what God gave man and woman to be Holy to be used with the same name of Marriage! God created marriage!! They may have unions not marriage. This is unreal!!! I spoke with another US Citizen who is shocked also that a Presidency that we had supported allows an abusive act to be called Gay Marriage. At least 85% of the people who are gay/lesbian were abused as babies, children, and did not know the difference!!! Every individual who has did this to a child should be locked up!!! Integrity my foot!!! The President has went against the will of God!!!!
It's a shame how the divisions within our nation and people, whether by political party, race, social class, or other, are the cause of this nation's failures. It's not ONE president or ONE single individual who holds the blame, it is all of us fighting against eachother and pointing fingers instead of working cohesively as a nation. Yes, this sounds naive, and like something that would come out of kindergarten teacher's mouth, but isn't that why as children we were taught to work together?
I've said it before and I will say it again, animals have more sense than our president! Ever see to male dogs trying to mate?
Obama has never nor will he ever have my support! He stole the office of president and laughed at our christian nation and you can see the results! We NEED Obama out of office and GOD and Jesus Christ back in our country! No matter who is in office of the President, as long as this nation continues to turn away from God, it will continue to get worse!
republicans job plan is rebuilding other countries – iraq and afganistan did alright [new roads ,bridges, refineries] now they want to put the people of iran to work
Are you kidding me, while the American ppeloe are losing their jobs because of this Obama administration, we have to see what you are doing spending all the money we are borrowing from Saudi Arbia and China.Give me a break, you are ruining our economy on purpose. 3 years more of this Chicago politics. Will we be able to make it.Oh! Michelle you said We would all be moving , well I know what you meant. We will all be broke, living in the streets. You are the worst person to be President!
Is the american people FINALLY waking up and seeing this non-american born thing we have in the white house trying to pretend he is President? With all of the different passports he has had in the past showing he was from different countries (look it up) and different names, I'm surprised he can still remember his name! As for jobs, it's no wonder the employment rate is so high. All the illegals have the jobs that our own people need (some of these illegals are willing to work for $1.00 and hour just to stay here and get all the benefits the government gives them)! With so many of our servicemen coming home there will be nothing there for them except to reenlist!
When did Blitzer start working for Obama. He is useing his position as a news person to try to help Obama win. He can not hide it and Cnn should get some good news people working for them and why you keep Blitzer on noing how he slants the news. But I no he will never see this but because of the way he slants the news and try to make Obama look good and do not give the other side views. I will be going to Fox for the complete news
why is it ok for Obama to be evolving on gay marriage but not ok for Romney to be evolving on immigration? What happened to balance
The bigger and broader question to ask Sam, and I dojn't know why all these clever reporters have not rallied the sciences together on this one, is "why aren't we all evolving enough to realize that we have jerked this planet around with our genetic engineering et al enough to even have the dragoflies confused with what sex they are. these drives are purely chemical and if any sinner is to be damned on the 'gay' question (silly word) its those who have sinned against the planet and nature in such a way that these urges are now a scientific dilemma not a political one unless they all wake up and smell the roses they are now planting.Time for all these reporters to do the homework.
Sincerely Daphni
Also, a lot of people have lost their jobs bsuacee the guys at the top, contrary to their conservative-provided titles of job creators , refuse to share their money. Oh and guess what, some people are too young or too old to work! pretty sure [...]
I agree with you! I'm sick of the slanted news that he and a number of other CNN news/slang are reporting! I remember another one named Lemon (don't remember his first name) who was so racist in his reporting (against the whites) that I have refused to watch him when ever he come on the TV!
I have always felt that the news media can effect the out come of an election, sway public opinion! I'm sick of watching a reporter go up to someone who has just lost a loved one, stick a mic in their nose and ask 'how do you feel about this'? One of these days they are going to ask the wrong person and will get their own mic feed to them amoung other things!
C'mon Wolf, you can do better at higing your feelings than this. President Obama is fine, in your eyes, with an "evolving" position on gay marriage, but Gov. Romney is somehow offensive to you because his position has obviously evolved since 1994. Romney has said repeatedly that he is against gay marriage, but you are okay with the Obama position "evolving" in the MIDST of an election? An "evolving" position in an election is pure hypocrisy...much like your position when it comes to President Obama. Try harder Wolf, your colors (Blue) is showing.
This election will be a LANDSLIDE for the GOP ..............and I think Obama sees it coming.
I heard that the accumulation of votes for the 2012 USA National Elections have been outsourced to Spain. Can you verify this as being true?
We have a spending problem, not a taxing problem. Always has been, always will be. The so-called health care bill now costs twice what we were promised. I wouldn't take credit for that monstrocity either.
Wolf, are you seriously posing the question: "If the president is proud of his legislative achievements, why isn't he singing its praises loudly and clearly?" Look what happened when the President dared to talk about the killing of bin Laden. For an entire week (at least), every CNN show talked about the inappropriateness of him using this as part of his political campaign. He was accused of bragging and taking all the credit. The criticism was relentless. You criticize him when he does "take a bow" and then criticize him when he doesn't. This man just can't win.
Wolf, once again you have lurched uncontrollably into the truth!
Does anyone know where I can buy Medicare coverage? I am under 65, healthy, but uninsured and I am concerned that if I am seriously ill or injured the not-for-profit hospital will chase me or my survivors to the ends of the earth for a bill based on charges that are 8-10 times what they accept from Medicare or Blue Cross.
So I want that coverage. If the Affordable Care Act goes under this option should be made available.
I am willing to pay a fair price. Just deduct it from my check.

Obama's campaign philosphy – "FORWARD...FAST AND FURIOSLY!!"
If your on the left the healthcare plan doesn't come close to solving the underlying problem of runaway healthcare costs. Only single payer would do that as in the other countries who have it. If your on the right it's a political football for implying govt take-over. It was the non-solution, the few good points in it were bartered away to the corporations for forced policies.
The Europeans are maing their statement about conservative politics that protects the rich and leaves everyone else fending for themselves. I doubt the Republicans are listening. Obama doesn't have to say much, he and he rest of us can watch the Republicans self-destruct arguing to protect corporations and th wealthy.
This is for Runforestrum and Doug .. if it weren't for all the propaganda from Hannity, and the others from Fox news, you wouldn't have any opinions about anything political .. because no one's told you what to think yet. How about using your own thoughts, your own opinions for a change, instead of waiting for someone else to put them into your head. Notice that I was nice, and used the word propaganda, instead of out and out lies.
Seldom has so much been said that was so obvious for so little effect... Wolf, Captain Obvious has nothing on you sir!
Fuuny, neither Obama, the administration nor any major news organization is talking about how over the last two years Onama has been releasing captive high-level Taliban terrorists in Afghanistan as so called "peace offerings" to the rest of the remaining Taliban. Keeping this information from the American public makes you wonder what else he and the liberal left media are hiding from us?
How about these accomplishments:
Largest deficit ever
Most self-serving speeches
Failure to put bills on White House website as promised
Failure to hold Congressional Health Care negotiations broadcast on C-Span as promised
Failure to keep unemployment under 8% as promised
Failure to end the hiring of lobbyists as promised
Failure to disclose names of all attendees at meetings at White House
I could go on, but I haven't the time. Besides Libs. will just blame Bush and fools will actually buy into that lame excuse for a failure of a President.
Add taking credit for something that was already in play. Obama did not 'withdraw' troops from Iraq, nor did he end the war. He simply followed the the agreement Bush signed in 2008.
"All US Forces were mandated to withdraw from Iraqi territory by 31 December 2011 under the terms of a bilateral agreement signed in 2008 by President Bush. The U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq was completed on 18 December 2011 early Sunday morning.' from Wiki
worst president since Carter!
He just keeps going on and on. I really think he thinks we can not see what he is doing. Why doesn't he talk about what the EPA is up to these days? They are not protecting the environment. They are out to control and reduce industry. They help no one. They just keep beating jobs downs. I still can't figure why people out there voted for such a liberal.
The edge of the cliff is coming closer.
2/08 – 1/09 4,462,000 jobs LOST (Bush's last year)
2/09 – 1/10 4,282,000 jobs LOST (Obama's first year)
2/10 – 1/11 1,177,000 jobs GAINED
2/11 – 4/12 2,533,000 jobs GAINED
No one has been able to explain to me how these job numbers are bad for President Obama. Yes, we did lose a lot of jobs in Obama's first few months, but that had nothing to do with Obama. It's clear from the numbers that the economy was shedding jobs at a blazing pace when he took office.
The facts are clear. The economy was in a death-spiral when the president took over and it's getting better now. It has been getting better for the last couple of years. Anybody can see from the numbers that we still have a long way to go to get out of the crater left by the Great Recession, but there's not denying that we're making steady progress. The future looks much brighter than the past.
Good for you. Glad to hear someone giving the President credit for doing as well as he has given the disastrous state the country was in when he took over. I am Canadian but I pray Americans will see that the country is headed in the right direction and will allow Pres. Obama to continue his good work.
Wolf, you also failed to mention the massive increase in the government debt, failure to close the GITMO detainee facility, and why the administration continues to support Eric Holder, who, by all accounts was one of the worst appointments in presidential history. What was predicatable, however, is the fact that you didn't criticize him at all, it's what we've come to expect from you and the majority of the liberal media with this president. BTW, he's softballing the health care issue because it has proven to be controversial and there has been no real discourse on what it will cost Americans in the long haul. It's like Peolosi said, though, you've got to vote for it to see what's in it. It was never about doing what was right for the American people, it was merely about satisfying a party objective–pass health care reform by any means necessary. Yammer on Wolf.
The fight with Romney isn't about health care wolf knows better the fight with Romney is jobs jobs jobs It's the ECONOMY stupid.
In campaigns the candidates go with the ebb and flow of events. Right now the story on health care is on hold pending next months Supreme Court decision. At that time there will be a great deal of ink written on the subject. Here Blitzer is critical of Obama for not pushing a string when nobody in their right mind does that. Blitzer seems to be wanting to create news where none exists and one has to wonder who he is doing the bidding for.
Yes, Blitzer, and Cafferty do have a problems. For example? I can remember how enthralled they both were with Rick Perry, and bragged a great deal about him to viewers when he first jumped into the race. They often appear to behave like those on Faux news the majority of the time. Maybe they need to move to that station since they tend to talk the same trash at times.
I found it funny that Wolf Blitzer asserted that the folks on the right don't like federal mandates yet they crafted the unfunded "No Child Left Behind Act" and now are pushing the voter ID mandate. Let's face it...if Obama were to put food on every table, a shirt on every back, bring peace to the world, and the cancellation of "Keeping Up With The Kardashians"...the Republicans would still gripe about him. Simply put, today's Republicans couldn't care less about the welfare of our nation. It's all about themselves.
America doesn't care about Britain. Lets get real here. America only cares about its own selfish nanaotil interest, if that interest can be best served by using its friends, then so be it. But don't count on America to repay the favour when its friends need any help and we don't stand to gain. We use you when we need you and cut you loose when we don't. We have to remember that in the 1980s, at the height of the cold war, the UK stood shoulder to shoulder with us, allowing our army and air-force to build huge bases on UK soil, extending the hand of friendship in every way possible. And what did we do? We did nothing to help as the terrorists of the IRA were killing British civilians in Northern Ireland and the UK mainland, bombing British cities from Belfast to London and back again. In fact we were guilty of a terrible crime of the utmost betrayal we turned a blind eye when our OWN citizens fund raised for the brutal IRA terrorist machine on US soil! We refused to extradite known IRA terrorists so they could face justice in the UK. Can you imagine how the US Government would react if an ally turned a blind eye to Al-Qaeda fund raising on its soil or refused to hand over terrorist suspects? Yet another day when I am embarrassed to be an American abroad, and there have been way too many of those days over the last few years! Whatever happened to loyalty and friendship?
our fiirst affirmative action President wiill only serve one term. I cannot wait till historians uncover the scandalous way team obama stole the nomination from Hillary.. with his campaign's underhand methods "winning" all those small red state caucuses in 2008...the media turned a blind eye in their fanatic devotion to this under-qualified candidate..
So now I see Its important for the media to decide what must go into a campaign ad and when. The title theme of the ad Is "FORWARD" You dont mention Dodd Frank just health care wonder why. me I hust think these are passed legislation and you guys speculatinjg or predictiing what Supreme court justices will decide to pad out a weak argument and segment just highlights the problem with Todays media... never mind the facts lets speculate.
Sme problem with Biden gay mariagw comments tryinfg to ellicit comments that show a division in policy on that in the White House.... its ridiculous I am nominating Bilitzer and Yellen for AC36-'s Ridiculist!!
Regards,
Hodgson.
And Wolf, why talk about a program that might be overturned. Everybody knows ACA is in limbo until the decision. You suggesting that is a glaring omission is an indication of how out of touch you are with current events. Or, are you claiming the administration should take a position now so that you can blast them for whatever it is after the decision. Talk about perpetuating you own existence. They say "Courts overreaching." You say, "Exerting undue influence." They say, "Court should uphold." You say, "Arrogance."Or "Out of touch with reality." depending on the ruling. Great for you, stuff writes itself.
"Maybe that’s because polls have shown that the health care law is not all that popular."
Maybe he should do an ad publicizing his other widely popular ideas like: The Patriot Act, The NDAA or The Dream Act. Heck while he's at it he should also put in how he's a socialist and America is well on it's way to becoming a 3rd world country. Maybe then American's would vote for Obamanation!
Another blitzkrieg ,Wolfman you really know how to lead into an article sensationalism at its best, I believe you don't have an unbiased bone in your body. America one of 3 supposedly industrialized nations without uniform health care the other 2 being Mexico and Turkey. So the president tries to right the wrong and the right tries to wrong the right.
George W. Bush inherited a strong economy, a budget surplus, and a nation at peace.
Eight years later, he left Obama with a shattered economy, a trillion dollar deficit, and two useless wars.
Obama saved the country from another Great Depression, rebuilt GM, reformed healthcare, reformed Wall Street, doubled the stock market, created 10 straight quarters of GDP growth, created 27 straight months of private sector job growth, got Bin Laden, got Gaddafi, and got us out of Iraq.
And now with the automatic spending cuts and the expiration of the Bush tax cuts in 2012, Obama has solved the deficit problem as well.
Obama has done a very good job.
While Obama was bemoaning the poor students who have an average of $25,000 college debt " thats the average, some are more" (wow what a lesson from the president in statistics), "can I get an amen on that?" He failed to remind us that he has increased the deficit per tax payer $47,000. At least the students were able to choose to take out their loans and got something in return. A worker with a college degree will earn nearly $1,000,000 more in their lifetime than without the degree. What return can we expect on the $47,000 Obama stole from each tax payer? By the way, Obama, care to share with the voters how many rounds of golf you have played since being elected the leader of the free world?
Another fawning "pimp" for Obama... stumbling over himself to glorify Obama instead of reporting the truth & the "cancer" that is Obama's policies... Walter Cronkite would puke at the sound of CNN's "Boys for Obama" approach..
Hey Wolf......do you ever get tired of being a cheerleader and long for the old days of being an unbiased journalist?
Yes, Wolf. It's the Supreme Court thing. We get it.
When you have no real story to tell, you make it up as you go along. The Mr. Obama administration is good at doing just that with their smoke and mirrors philosophy. The problem for Mr. Obama and his equally clueless administration; we Americans are not as stupid as they make us out to be.
Now Mr. Obama has a record and that record is absolutely not appealing at all. All the lies and exaggerations have finally caught up with him and his lapdogs.
America, don't be hoodwinked, again!
He's worried about the decision on his healthcare plan, his baby,he did it and no other president, democrate or republican has even come close,ya gotta give him credit for that...If the SCOTUS turns down the mandate provision in the plan or cannabilizes the bill, they, the SCOTUS will loose all judicial credibility because of partisan bickering,a well known fact since Pres.Obamas presidency started. They'll be reduced to robed old men and women, a position that will be viewed as unreliable for truthfully being bipartisan in their thinking as well as their judgements. They'll be held to the highest of accountibility for their every move. This happened once back when Pres.Roosevelt looked to the SCOTUS for approval of a job bill to help in the wake of the GREAT DEPRESSION to energize the economy. But they, the republican lead SCOTUS turned it down and after reelection Pres.Roosevelt added two more judges for a total of nine with their appointments and they just happen to be liberal, killing any futher deniles in bills put forward in the future. So be carefull how you judge the health care bill because if reelected Pres.Obama might well appoint 2-4 more judges because of retirements, health problems, age and being liberal leaning to halt any more of the same being done in the future.
One reason he might have avoided talking about this health care law is that everyone knows by now, that it was carefully crafted to allow free health care for illegal aliens at U.S. taxpayer expense. I'd avoid talking about that too, if I was running for president.
Simply he believes there is a chance that in a month his health care law will be no more because of the Supreme Court, which is true.
why would he mention it when the law isn't fully implemented and may be overturned by the supreme court next month.
No one likes the fact that the Healthcare Bill was rammed down our throats.
You failed to mention that Government Motors still owes the tax payers a significant amount of cash., the Iraq draw down was slated to take effect by GW. 4.2 million jobs created. how many lost? No mater how you play it it is still a significant unemployment number. Some of those lost jobs are in the green energy market, the industry that was to spur job growth. ( see Solyndra)
This president has failed miserably just face it.
If it wasn't for the 49.5 % of the people voting for him who pay no taxes and live off of the Government dime he would be ii some serious trouble.
Wow, you are quite the propaganda sponge.
What in the reply is NOT true?
run4estrun, here are a few things in your reply that are NOT true. (1) The 4.2 million figure accounts for the number of jobs lost. (2) Some of the people who pay no taxes will vote for Obama and others will not. Some of the people who pay taxes, like me, will vote for Obama and others will not. (3) Paying no taxes and living off the government dime are two different things; 49.5% do NOT do both. (4) Even if what you had said were true, it wouldn't make Obama a miserable failure. You're entitled to your own opinions, but NOT your own facts.
the 49.5% people living off the government dime voting for him for one. You might have had a decent argument before that outlandish statement. Do you realize how many people "live off the government dime"? This includes social security and medicare/medicaid. All soldiers, police, incorporated fire responders, and public officials live off the government dime. Federal employees, laboratory researchers, government contractors, ALL live off the government dime. The only thing in your statement remotely true is reducing our presence in Iraq. We all know where the economy took a turn. Stop being partisan and own up to it. And no, I'm not bashing republicans. I hate them all. Why? Why not spend more time blasting Obama for some of the horrendous things that have happened over his watch, like the signing of the NDAA? Wake up.
run4estrun is simply stating the facts. It is you who is blindly following the propaganda. Support your position with intelligent statements.
it ok if you guys feel that way cos did not vote for him in 2008 so it's ok but tell me about bush . it is always easy to critize a public figure ,remember you cannot compare 1 thing you can always compare two things. whoever wins ,let us examine romney's record
Maybe, just maybe, if the bills that emanate from cossoengirnal halls were indicative of their Title and didn't have earmarks and pork subterfuge attached by those members of congress that value their re-election more than the oath taken when they were sworn in, there would be more support for things like education and GI bills. Some Conservatives at least try to separate the "chaff from the wheat"!I can't believe that the general "run of the mill" Senator or Representative doesn't realize that as time goes by more and more citizens are ON TO THEM! It's just a shame that the voting times are so infrequent. Memories fade They know it and solife as it is goes on!
"Remember also how, in 2008, then-Senator Obama voted to increase clgeole money awarded to U.S. servicemen from the Montgomery G.I. Bill while your more conservative counterparts voted against it?Way to support the troops!"Are you a member of Congress or just someone else who failed to read the bill? The problem with the bill for most people who read the bill was that it included benefits to individuals who failed to complete a term of service. It wasn't about "the troops" it was about spreading the wealth even back then!
Well said. Perfect response to this drivel
well all of the people who dont pay taxes are not Obama voters for 1, 2 its about trends, it takes time for things to go from being as bad as they were when Obama took office to how they are now, -9%GDP > 2.2% GDP, 800,000 jobs lost in a month to 115,000 jobs gained. Long term investing in green energy is a good idea, yes some companies fail, still a good long term strategy, and 3 that money that GM owes the treasury is because the treasury owns GM stock, not because of a direct loan, best idea is that Treasury keeps the stock for at least a decade and makes a nice profit, as is the point of owning stock. 4 your an idiot.
Well said Run4!! it amazes me that if you disagree with the president's policies your a "propaganda sponge" Both sides have their propaganda, you have to look at the facts. He probably didn't mention the health care law cause there is still a good chance it will fail in the supreme court. (That other branch of govt, that Obama is trying to bully.) On a side note, is it me or is all the blaming Bush still... it sounds very much like my 5 year old kids...."not my fault, he did it." When is he going to man up and take responsibility for his actions and the way he is running the govt. Here I'm trying to teach my kids to take responsibility for their actions and we have a president who won't.
run4estrun 1) Treasury owns GM stock, GM does not owe treasury any outstanding loans, I hope treasury will hold on to the stock for a decade (the point of owning stock)
2) yes your right, the framework for the withdraw was created under W, but under the original plan we were going to have a small force of about 10,000 stay there indefinatly as 'peace keepers' not doing that drew criticism from the right.
3) Its about trends with jobs and the economy, when he came in to office we had -9% GDP and lost 800,000 jobs that month, now 2.2% GDP and gained 115,000 jobs in a month, lets see that is a net improvement of 11.2% GDP and 915,000 jobs/month.
4) Investing in renewable energy is the smartest thing we can do long term (50+ years) for our energy needs, yes some companies in the process will go under, still a good idea.
5) All of the 49% of people who pay no INCOME taxes (actually 47%) are not Obama votes, I would bet that a solid portion of them are tea party members.
also not all of the people who pay no income taxes 'live off the government dime'.
You're 100% correct. Liberals hate facts and the truth. It doesn't sit well with their agenda to move America to the extreme left. The Supreme Court is going to find the Individual Mandate un-Constitutional and Obama is going to have to wear that red-herring.
Haha all of it is wrong. That's 4.2 million NET job created (gains – losses). Also, GM has already paid back its loans. Please do not comment if you have no understanding of the issues.
You asked what's not true, here goes:
1. GM paid back the Obama Admin loans. They did not pay back the Bush Admin loans. Why? Because Obama required pay back and Bush did not. Look it up.
2. Bush refused to agree to any time table for withdrawal from Iraq. In fact, he vetoed a bill in 2007 that had a timetable. Indeed, McCain and Darth Cheney harped on this during the 2008 campaign. You simply invented the idea that Bush had a plan to withdraw from Iraq.
3. Obama has a lackluster record on job creation, perhaps somewhat explained by the loss of 2.5 million jobs in his first 4 months in office. Nevertheless, Bush averaged 150,000 net private sector jobs per month; Obama is averagaing 146,000. Under Bush, there were far more public sector jobs created – public sector jobs have actually declined under the "socialist" Obama
4. the 49.5% Americans receiving a government check includes Medicare and Social Security recipients. The number was 45% under Bush. The increase of 4% is due to higher unemployment and more people receiving food stamps. The rise in food stamps is due to relaxed eligibility criteria and greater efforts to enroll eligible people. These efforts starterd under Bush.
Yes, you are a propogandist.
"What in the reply is NOT true?"
This part..."49.5 % of the people voting for him who pay no taxes"
They pay no Federal Income Tax. Not even close to the same thing.
What is not true? The distortion that uninformed people like you use claiming 47-50% of Americans pay no taxes that is what is not true. Also you fail to even mention that 66% of all businesses in America paid no corporate taxes last year. Have you ever asked who are these so called people are that pay no taxes? What percentage of tax filers are disabled? Do you know? What percent are over the age of 65 and only work part time to supplement a meager SS check? Do you know? What percent are still in school working part time to try to pay college expenses? Do you know? No you do not. Why? Because you are not intelligent enough to do any research. You just parrot what sounds good to you. If you actually take some time to research things you might actually know what you are talking about someday. Today, you obviously do not.
Well said...
The 49.5% that pay no taxes is wrong. They may not pay any federal income tax, but they do pay FICA, sales taxes, excise taxes, property taxes and probably some others.
"This president has failed miserably just face it."
That is simply not true. All of it, your entire post, garbage bits and bytes meant to confuse and derail.
Best of luck with your spinning.
GM does not owe the government cash, the government OWNS GM stock and the stock isn't quite as valuable as it was when purchased so the government is holding the stock till they can sell for full value (actually probably waiting for increased value).
A lot is not true in your post. One, you conflate bailout with TARP. Bailout funds have been repaid plus interest as reported. TARP has not just like with many Wall Street banks. You don't mention them, why? Bush scheduled an 8000 troop drawdown in 2008. 142,000 troops were in Iraq when Obama took office. You have a math issue there. The job creation rate during the Bush administration dropped from just over 20% in 2000 to under 6% in 2008. Jobs were still being lost because of Bush policy when Obama was inaugurated. Obama policies could not take effect until congressional approval, so it's fair to say job losses up until about April 2009 are not the consequence of any specific Obama policy. Check your numbers now and they don't help your argument. And Solyndra cost a total of $270 million not the billion Malkin says, well within expected default rates for loans of this type in any sector. Some of what you say is just factually incomplete, some is utterly untrue, regardless of how much you believe in your sources. Learn to do real research if you want to ask , "What in the reply is NOT true?"
Having added 4 million jobs to the work force during the last 3 years is a lot better than adding 0 during shrubs 8 years in office. His administration showed nothing but losses to the economy, housing market, wall street and jobs.
That's funny, I voted for Obama and I 1) work 40 to 50 hours a week 2) pay taxes and 3) have a 790 credit score. I suppose my long-past military service could be considered "living off the Government's dime" but it certainly didn't feel like it when I was humping my rucksack around the desert for $900.00 a month (net).
Most of the money borrowed by the auto industry has been paid back. GW actually looked at and began working with Solyndra before Obama. At least there have been jobs created with Obama, whereas GW and the repugs created zero and started this unemployment mess. And with GW there was no exit plan with Iraq...basically because the entire reason for us being there in the first place was based on a lie...ahem...WMD? Oh and not to mention having no game plan with Afghanistan. So basically, ur entire reply was not true.
You do realize that Solyndra started during the Bush years, don't you?
A better question is what in your response is true. GM has paid a very substantial part of the loan back so are you talking about the shares in GM that the government still owns. The Iraq pullout was opposed by nearly every Republican plus what Bush did was a concession in principle to the government of Iraq. Congress had not acted on a plan for withdrawal so Bush gets scan credit. Private sector employment is now greater than when Obama came into office. That is a remarkable record considering that when Obama came into office this country was shedding 750,000 a month. Your "pay no taxes" statement is brain dead stupid. While you are entitled to your opinion that is not the same thing as being the truth.
Uh, nothing about the response is true.
4.2 million jobs created is a net number. That means that 4.2 million people are working now than were working before. So maybe 10 million jobs were created and 5.8 million lost. Turnover in the job market is a healthy thing, as long as net net jobs are being created.
The people who actually make any money and pay taxes in the US live on the coasts, and vote for Obama. The working poor who pay no taxes live in the "red states" of the south and midwest. They're the only reason Republicans have a chance. They've leveraged religious beliefs and moralizing tone to get the uneducated tax free white poor to vote republican.
What in my reply is not true?
Don't forget about Obuma taking credit for the increase in oil production, of course it was a GB action just like the pull out of Iraq. Speaking about Iraq, remember Obuma couldn't get a status of forces agreement. Let me know when the US gets one with Afganistan.
You are correct
Hmmmmmm, it seems only the far right is vocal these days, so I thought I'd chime in. I am 46, White, christian, make over $100K, house, 2 kids, a cat, a dog. There are millions of us, quietly sitting back while the GOP fights the fight for us, shooting themselves in the foot, and proving that they are voting out of fear and hate. Fear from their boss. Fear from their church, and hate. Hate on many levels.
I am voting Obama 12! As are millions of people just like me. The right has gone so far right that even within their own party there is mass fighting. If they can't even agree on their own platform, how can they possibly run a country. Is Obama perfect, of course not. But he is the best choice! OBAMA 12!
50% pay no taxes? Now that's untrue.
I would like them all to leave I despise them do not trust them and can see that all their diesicons benefit bankers and corporations at the cost of the wealth of the meager middle class.
How about the part where you say he has failed miserably? I know I'm personally much better off than I was on Bush's last day in office. And before you paint me as a welfare recipient or, heaven forbid, a woman who might use birth control, I assure you that I am neither.
This has been a good 3 years for our country despite Rove and the Koch brothers hoping otherwise. There is optimism and pride that wasn't there prior to his term. President Obama is as good a president as we've seen in my 43 years. He has my vote again in November.
Many people are living off the gov't because they have lost their jobs and/or can't find one. It was the policies of the Bush administration that caused the job crisis and Pres. Obama has done an admirable job of pointing the country in the right direction. If the GOP had won the 2008 election, the U.S. would probably be in a full blown depression right now. Why anyone would want to turn the country back over to the Party that caused the mess in the first place is beyond me. The players may have changed, but the ideologies and priorities have not.
I fully agree with you. So many of the Obama fans just vote for him for the benefits they receive (welfare, food stamps, etc); they don't realize the democrats need poor people to perpetuate the false perception that they care for the poor and will provide for them. The poor need JOBS so they can get out of their vicious cycle of government dependency.
49.5% of Americans don't pay any taxes and live off the government? LOL. You better check your stats again buddy...
I think it is likely Obamas Dog Bo was chewing on the speech, and ate the part about Obamas Great Health
Care Bill. So Obama never metioned it in his speech because it wasn't there.
Yse Doug... it's that same darn dog that ate Marcos Rubio final page that he, surprisingly and almost embarrassingly, found missing recently...Perhaps a trip to Teleprompters R Us might help him next time?....
