According to your own Fareed Zakaria, in the past two decades, the money that states spend on prisons has risen at six times the rate of spending on higher education. In 2011, California spent $9.6 billion on prisons, versus $5.7 billion on higher education. Since 1980, California has built one college campus; it's built 21 prisons. The state spends $8,667 per student per year. It spends about $50,000 per inmate per year.
Why is this happening? Prisons are a big business. Most are privately run. They have powerful lobbyists and they have bought most state politicians. Meanwhile, we are bankrupting out states and creating a vast underclass of prisoners who will never be equipped for productive lives.
Russ Eppen The incarceration of only ONE of our citizens for one year could pay for FOUR YEARS of college for one student...so which is our country's highest priority? At the present time, it is putting people in prison for using drubs, rather then educating our citizens! This is ludicrous!

About time. Latest Gallup poll shows about 75% of the US supports medical marijuana.
Over thirty states have marijuana reform legislation in 2012 so make sure to contact your elected officials and tell them how you feel.

There are over thirty states with 2012 legislation for medical marijuana. If you live in one of those states and you support medical marijuana, make sure you contact your elected representatives and let them know how you feel. Websites like mpp dot org can take your zip code and give you the contact info for the representatives in your particular district. (It can also send a premade email, or you can send a custom email if you prefer.)
If you look at Gallup polls, the majority of the United States supports marijuana being completely legalized and treated like alcohol. About 75% supports medical marijuana. I wouldn't be surprised if President Obama and the republican candidate use marijuana reform as one of their main campaign points because whichever one supports it will most likely be the one who gets elected.
Well, nothing new here. George Washington grew pot at Mount Vernon. And he wasn't alone. Adams and Jeffers were also "Gardeners".
Yup, by our current laws, some of our countries most historic figures would be felons.
