In a commercial for Chrysler during the Super Bowl, Clint Eastwood talks about "halftime" in America. Did this ad have pro-Obama undertones? CNN political contributors Donna Brazile and Mary Matalin discuss in "strategy session."
martin: not to defend the African avslers, but the model of slavery they were familiar with differed considerably from that of the people they sold to. An African slave was usually a member of the household who lived with the family, had customarily defined roles, and whose children were born free. Quite a bit different from the Western model of chattel slavery.
Conservatism is a bit schizophrenic. You have real csroenvatism, which is an effort to support the customs and traditions of a society in order to maintain stability. Traditional csroenvatism is collectivist, viewing society as an organic whole, and was the originator of social welfare programs. Social conservatives tend to be in this tradition. Then you have orthodox/classical liberals. They want minimal government, and tend to reject what social conservatives want. They oppose interventionist liberals (people who are still capitalist liberals, but think government must intervene actively to protect markets and assure equal opportunity), which is what the Democrats usually are. So the GOP is split between traditional conservatives and orthodox/classical liberals, while the Democrats have both interventionist liberals and actual social democrats (people who want a kind of socialism via democratic means). Some states deal with this by having four or five parties; we mesh them together into two!
Snarkity snark snark snark.Shut up.I didn't buy DiCaprio as Howard Hughes in The Aviator 'cause I thought he was tinerely too young for the role. Now a few years later, Leo's filled out physically and got some gravitas to him. From this trailer, he looks good as J. Edgar. All you rainbow flag wavers, forget about a full-on, man-to-man kiss between Edgar and Tolson. All you'll get is the hand-holding in the car. This is still America.Vivian Vance, though? LOLI haven't really liked this run of Eastwood flicks (with the exception of Gran Torino; set in an alternate-universe Detroit where there are lots of Cambodians WTF?), but as a history fan, I'll be checking this out.
I feel that Clint Eastwood had every right to express his view's ..Look what's happening around this great Nation Jobs headed oversea"s American's out of Work...He wanted to express how others are coping with Our Government's failure to handle American's Problems ...Our Government is so focused on foreign policy throwing money oversea's and what is American's getting in return..? the Money should go to Amercan needs...the American's should be cared for 1st..Economy Jobs,,National debt...Homeless...etc...PERRY
Only if you are a Republican looking for fault in anything that might sound positive about the out;ook for America. Gloom and doom is their game until November...then they'll learn what gloom really means for them.
The sheer phoniness and cieperness of DiCaprio's woefully fake and distracting old age appliance proves why make up maestro Dick Smith richly deserves his honorary Oscar this year. Little Big Man , The Exorcist and Amadeus all featured incredible Age make ups by the master Smith. Why is it decades later no one can seem to pull this effect off as convincingly as Smith did so long ago? Only his protege Rick Baker comes close! If the Hoover make up looks this bizarre and rubbery in fleeting trailer shots, I fear it will prove unintentionally laughable and distracting while lingering on screen in the final product.

Really good ad, it was about America and not the political parties.
