There are two things in the Mideast the US considers to be of 'vital national interest' - oil and Israel. The well-being of the American people seems far less important.

Those countries will be fighting millions of years from now.Let them all kill each other and we can feed and take care of our own people. We have millions here in the USA that need our help first.Jim Thomas Phx.Az.

Taking care of the own people is a government's duty in the first place, Jim, no doube about it. Strangely however, the US leaders seem to have a different view and regard 'oil and Israel' as 'vital national interest' and therefore more important. As soon as this principle changes into a non-military version, the quarreling will stop and the countries in the Mideast region will feel more responsible for their own future.
