(CNN) - What struck me most about Rick Perry’s verbal assault on Mitt Romney at the CNN Western Republican Debate in Las Vegas was its contrast to the way Ronald Reagan used to conduct himself during debates.
The late president would never have gone after a fellow Republican in such a direct, personal way. If Reagan were going to attack a fellow Republican on something like the alleged hiring of illegal immigrants for lawn service, he would have had his aides handle it. He would have personally stayed away from the charge.
(CNN) – Sen. John McCain has some words of wisdom for Gov. Rick Perry ahead of Tuesday’s CNN Republican debate: Get some rest.
“Every time I made a serious mistake politically and I’ve made them, it’s been when I’m tired,” McCain said in an interview Friday on CNN’s “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.”

(CNN) - Whether you agree or disagree with his stance, you have to give Texas Gov. Rick Perry credit for sticking to his guns on some sensitive issues that many tea party and other conservative Republican activists actively oppose.
I’m talking about his support in Texas for in-state tuition rates for children of illegal immigrants and for a mandate to provide the HPV vaccine for young girls to prevent them from developing the sexually transmitted infection that can lead to cervical cancer.

(CNN) – The economy will be issue No. 1 in the presidential contest. But national security will be important, as well, and we just got a preview of the political debate that will unfold between President Obama and his Republican challenger – whoever that will be.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry, the front-runner for the GOP nomination according to our latest CNN-ORC International poll, didn’t mention Obama by name, but his target was clear when he addressed the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention Monday in San Antonio, Texas.
