Use of force justified in DC car chase?

A driver has a confrontation at the White House and speeds away towards Capitol Hill. Police pursue, and in the chaos that follows, they shoot and kill the woman behind the wheel, Miriam Carey. Today, many are asking, "Were their actions justified?" CNN's Brian Todd investigates.

This killing appears to be an over reaction by the police. Of course, they always assume the worst. That this woman is an al queda terrorist who is driving a car bomb. Rather unlikely, and there should be a more measured non fatal response to these situations. Just like when you go through airport security, they assume we are all terrorists, every last one. It's ridiculous that we now live in a totalatarian police state. If she had shown a gun, that would be different. The police always shoot first, investigate later. That attitude is the real reason Americans will not give up their right to firearms. They are not so much afraid of criminals as they don't feel comfortable with these police actions.

Could not the Police have shot out her tires, because they surrounded her car? If they felt a bomb was in the car, then why would they shoot the car, because they could have blown many people up, including themselves. They should have boxed her in. There are a lot of people out here that are suffering with mental illness, it is very unfortunate, and people really need to pay attention, when a person does not appear to be in their right mind.

NO ! But not for the normal reasons . Pat Brown ordered the the mental hospitals shut down . Then put it on hold to get re elected third term . Then Reagan beat him and got stuck with the law when he went into office . The law was push and forced into affect by the ACLU through Supreme Court . Now Mental ill are dumped into our streets , prisons ,or killed in incidents like this when they hurt others .
