An Open Letter To President Obama:

    Dear Mr. President:

A guest on MSNBC this morning said that since the shootings at Sandy Hook, 83 Americans have died from gun violence, including 24 children. But because these 83 people died in groups of 1-3, with multiple shooters, it doesn't register on our National Psyche the way Sandy Hook has. They didn't make me cry like Sandy Hook did, they didn't get a Presidential visit, or even a Presidential mention, and they didn't get 100 plus hours of coverage on CNN. In fact, I didn't even know about them before this morning! But why didn't I know? Isn't this the REAL story? Aren't their lives just as important? Shouldn't their names and numbers be included in the conversation as much as the poor kids and teachers from Sandy Hook?

The realization that we'll continue to LOSE another full classroom of kids every week until something is done gives the subject of gun violence the overwhelming importance it really deserves. And as much as I hate guns, it ain't just gun control that's the problem . Dr. Michael Welner, a Forensic Psychiatrist, was on TV today with some really good ideas on how to proceed with a true and balanced solution. PLEASE make sure you include him on your Presidential Commission, or whatever you're going to do to move forward towards a solution. Mayor Bloomberg should be in that group too, since he's on the leading edge of reality in what he's already doing to reduce gun violence in NYC.

You made a great speech in Sandy Hook, Mr.President, you always do. But we need a lot more that a great speech, we need great leadership. Please start TODAY to make the reduction of gun violence a focal point of your second term and a lasting part of your legacy.

I know you'll never read this, but it felt good to write it anyway.
