Really, Text messages can be saved by the wireless customer if they choose to do so. I see they are not asking the wireless customer, instead they are asking the wireless carrier to do this. They want to monitor citizens text messages particularly for the war on drugs which is a complete failure. I say cut law enforcement wages and benefits and just say no to communist law's which intrude on our constitutional rights. Law biding citizens are not stupid you know.

How much would it cost to store that much data yearly?

I cannot agree with this request of the police. I understand their frustration in tracking down bad people but having more access to our text messages as held by the carrier is not going to achieve that gaol. In the case presented in the video, the victim had the texts. Also being able to get the same information from the carrier would not help them here. It is clear that they are trying to find a situation where they can, in effect, have a record to gather information after the commission of a crime. The fourth amendment should protect against that from occurring in a similar way the United States v. Katz protects against wire taps. I am not opposed to the police being able to get information but I am against decreasing the protection we are afforded under the constitution. As for our country becoming a communist nation, I do not think that this is so dramatic.

Just another thing our communist government is doing to take freedoms away from the good people in the USA.We are getting closer to a communistic, socialistic type of government.Wake up people of the USA before it is to late,if it isn't already.God Bless America.Jim Thomas Phx.Az.
