Wolf Blitzer delivers the most important news and political stories of the day. Tune to The Situation Room weekdays 5-6:30pm ET on CNN.
Wolf Blitzer asks tough questions about the GOP's line of attack that President Obama is anti-business.
I recently watched the trailer for "2016: Obama's America". How is it that these bright "prophets" only see President Obama's political outcome on the US? No "visionary" saw Governor Romney? Or am I to understand that they do not vision him winning the presidency?
It's hard to understand why American Businessmen are against Obama because of all the good things that have happened for them during the last 4years compared to Bush/Cheney. So now they are actually supporting an anti-businessman in Mitt Romney because he destroys American business through Romney-Bain.there should be much more restrictions on leverage buyouts and corporate raiders like Romney-Bain. I believe that the reason companies are supporting Romney/Ryan is due to tax incentives promised to the rich and corporations.
Republicans are sliding the support back to Romney because it's clear Obama does not understand how to invigorate business. He only know more corp. taxes and more regulations. Does that answer your question?
The GOP and Romney & Ryan say Obama is anti business. But when you look at the house GOP they are the ones being anti American to its citizens and business people by not doing their work for the good of the people and business, they have not want to let Obama look good. They speak of reducing government at the same time they do not want to pay bills help the business grow they do not want doing anything about the facial cliff the money that has to spend to keep the country going, they are the ones who are anti business and to the American people.
For those who are opposed to President Obama's reelection, please take two "tax breaks", roll back some regulations, and pray that Romney will be able to cure your lack of understanding of mathematics. I might be unsure of Obama's plan to move the country forward, but I’m more skeptical about the Romney/Ryan that plan doesn't offer any substantial difference from Bush's policies. There are many (like me) who are not married to Obama/Dems… but we're also the bitter ex's/divorcees that refuse to return to a battered home. If Repubs were to offer something different than more tax-cuts and actually focus on reforms, they might capture my broken heart. Reality check, we can’t spend, tax or cut our way to prosperity, but perhaps a combination of all three with policy reform can reignite our economy?
He sued Boing and Gibson guitar. He tried to passcard check and carbon emissions taxes that would hurt us compaines. There is no doubt he is anti-business. What one thing has he done to help US companies except his bailout to his union and wall street buddies. He had 1 trillion dollars to spend on a stimulus package and could have gotten anything he wanted without needing a single republican vote. He did nothing. He is now worse than Jimmy Carter and has failed this country with his extreme policies that have all but destroyed the middle class. Every family is $4000 dollars per year worse off than when he took office. Yes, he is anti-business and has scared any potential small business from either starting or expanding with his constant threat of higher taxe. The sooner he is out of office, the faster the middle class can regain it's lost income.
J-what's your problem?bush almost destroyed most businesses when he and Cheney decided to deregulate everything.underBush, the steel industry suffered huge losses, the auto industry suffered to the extent of near destruction,WallStreet lost first 35% in 2002-3 and then 50% in 2008-9. No more Lehman Brothers, should have lost AIG, all those stock brokers like Merrill Lynch now subsidiaries, etc. get the point -J
Did Gloria state on tv at 6:30 new on 8-27-12 that she was glad storm was to hit gulf coast, so not so many would go to Tampa for convention? I thought I heard that and tell me that is not so. I know she if ar left, but to state that, of what i thouight i heard her say is reallyk beyound bounds. America is listening to CNN and i hope these statements were not said, even thought I realize CNN is for Pres. Obama. –Thank you .
Wolf this will sub prize you it the do nothing congress let by Republicans who are anti business. They have not done a dam thing for the American needs.
If he is anti business why did save the auto industry, banks, AIG and wall street. Romney on the other hand did not want to save none this business, now I ask you who is anti American business?
He is anti business. He did not save GM or Chrysler because he wanted to save to big corporations. Obama is committed to saving union jobs. He has no interest in saving anyone elses job
Wolfe you are smarter than that;
Today you said "I can’t believe Ryan does not know when the balance budget will be achieved" you went on to say you have interviewed him several times and this seems odd that he wouldn’t know the answer to that. I hope you were just trying to be a good reporter and bait the Romney spokesman you were interviewing. I listened to the Ryan interview and I will admit he needs to come off more confident, but what I heard was he has a plan to cut the budget, but he needed to let both the democrats and republicans have a go at it and agree on something. That may affect the timeframe that it will take to achieve a balanced budget if we are going to be reasonable and let both sides win some points and loss some points. I was not happy with the way the healthcare bill was negotiated and it appears most voters were not ether. So if we move in a direction of spending less and the government show the American people they are paying off debts, then Americans will most likely allow the government to raise taxes if it is ONLY going to be used to pay off current debt. History has proven that the government spends more every year. If the government happens to take in more money at any point in time we have a balanced budget for a little while. America does not trust the government to spend less. Once Americans’ get that trust I think that will change.
Wolf, You I thought were better than that, The dow has struggled all year between12 and 13 or barely over all year, You proudly support the NEW Communist Socialist Party, That is not America!! What is wrong with getting an HONEST President for once, An American that is Proud of this country, Our country has had its ups and downs But this President is a Radical Racist.CNN Needs to go back to reporting rather than supporting. I voted for Obama, the biggest mistake of my life. What is Obama's big plan!!!??? Also Wolf Why did Homeland security order Hollow point ammunition for NOAA, The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration!!!??? To shoot Hurricanes? Don't you think that is strange? CNN used to be alright now they are no better than MSNBC. FOX news channel tells it like it is and they are fair and Balanced.
Romney destroyed American business at huge rates so that he could make his blood money.these companies had some flaws but were viable. They had to have high value otherwise Romney would not have raided them . Before 1980 ,his company was known as a corporate raider, therefore Romney is anti- business. He is also an out-sourced because he facilitated the selling of technology and sent jobs to China. In act, he helped Bush send 4 million jobs to China and assisted in 60,000 plant closings.. Ryan,by the way, is anti-senior because he plans to destroy Medicare and SS.
You could only have found this propaganda on MSNBC
He is totally not anti-business. Acme in Elk Grove Village,Il. where Romney spoke the other day, Had profits go up 80% last year and had to hire more workers. He(Obama) has done a lot to give small businesses tax breaks, and won 23 trade suits against China-all of which have been good for American business. Papa John is a liar. His pizza is probably going up because the drought is forcing up food costs.Even Obama can't cause a drought. I have never been a Papa John fan, but not that he's trying to get free publicity by lying he will definitely be on my miss list..
I wrote in McCain in 2000. He's changed since then, and so have I. Obama all the way.If Obama gets eeetcld, Ie2€™m hoping that he can do everything for the White House that he did for the Illinois state legislature 2 short years ago.Yes, no doubt Romney's decades of political experience was what drew you to him. Or are there actually other skills someone can bring to office? I see a lifetime of politics as a negative now. It's about who you'll bring with you into office, what kind of decisions you'll make, and how willing you are to work with people instead of locking yourself in the White House believing you know better than everyone else.
Talk about business let's tax business 40% of any payroll outside of the US that they pay and the 40% of their payroll back to the US. This may keep jobs in the US and we will not continue to see made in Chino on most every item we purchase. Also lets have a flat federal tax of 10% for every american with no deductions which will be less for some more for others and it will bring in more taxes than currently come in.
"Emphacy 'young-man' I guess that is a legal term, prior to a trial?"
"Shootings! Just one more negative for Obama, as he looses control of the USA. You know nothjing of this guy, and I keep repeating it, and at the same time you carry on cover up of the truth."
"John McCain was talking about me!!!!"
"And whats this about dozens of Obama's Administration taking cooking-courses, and then claiming from the Government for the cost."
"Well, Wolfe. Your Georgeous Gloria more oe less admitted CNN knew about Mitt Romney tax-returns. when she said Mitt handed them over to John McCain when being vetted in 2008. You also know 2010 & 2011, whats all this controversy about???"
What about the 49% of Americans that do not pay taxes? Is nobody the least bit concerned about this?
Much easier to squeeze more out of the upper class... I guess.. But then they spend less, hire less and give less to charity...
"Just how much Drug-Trafficking by those Gangs, goes on across the Lakes to Canada, from the USA, Wolfe?? If you want Canada to help, I suggest you get more involved in the truth."
"Yes, Wolfe, and your Gang-violence in Chicago and Michigan, is sneeking across the lakes into Southern Ontario!"
"And as the Dust-Bowl grows, Obama finds another place to hide his mistakes!"
"I guess you got it??? The profit come from the Production of whatever you make, of which you need enough workers qualifies to produce, workers that you have to pay a decent wage, plus enough welfare to attract their skills, with a promise of upgrading their needs. Everyone likes to think there is a future in their industrial life!"
Yes being in Office-equipment for most of my working life, I went into all departments of the commercial side of business. The accounts is hugh, yet produces nothing. Administration is hugh, yet produces nothing. Maintenance is hugh, yet produces nothing. Then there are the research and laborities dept, and the transport dept, plus Sales and Buying etc. Where's the profit coming from, Wolfe????"
"Ignorant to Business, is a much better phrase. He talks about what he thinks you want to hear, because he knows very little, if anything about how business is played out. You need customers first, even if you're just selling dirt for a product to grow, then you need to be able to invest in that business indefinitly if you want it to survive. Companies spend as much, if not more on research, then there is adverising. Obama is the kind of guy, who thinks 'all you need to do is open a store and customers just roll in'."
American citizens seems to be split right down the middle. I feel like there isn't a good canidate for me to choose this year. Which one is less evil of the two? So sad to think this. For all that think the choice is so clear, get real. The rich make policies to help them & their friends get around high income tax. The other has a persona of giving help and providing for everyone. The money to pay for these programs have to come from somewhere. Neither of these ideologies work in bettering America, but seem to get support from the people that share their same interest. More government regulation will just hinder progression in America.
There should only be tax breaks for those who are extremely poor, in college trying to better their lives, or someone who donates should be able to use that as a tax write-off.
Everyone should work for their own D$MN bread! Prisons need to create work programs that force the inmates to be productive and pay for their own incarceration. People on welfare should be forced to prove they're looking for a job. There should be drug testing requirements to receive welfare. Government assistance isn't bad, but programs need to be in place that incourage people to get up on their own feet.
The biggest complaint I have is that our elected officials aren't meeting in the middle. Which tells me their own interests are more important than getting our country back in the right direction.
Peace to you all!! God Bless America!!
Your comment is the best I've seen. It's a shame that most of the voters that put Obama in office won't see it.
Romney is try to help himself it sound like 2004 campaign once in office he and Bain Capital will make a lot of money just like Bush and Chaney did with Halliburton, the GOP will make it legal and American will be in deeper financial mass.
Anyone who would not vote for a flat tax of 15% for all income is pro-business. Amounts paid in taxes by the rich and poor are after all the deductions, the rich have more to choose from too. 15% ON ALL INCOME – RICH OR POOR – That will scare the pants off those who hide money. Corporations, Mitt Romney, Obama, GM etc. all overseas funds are taxable. ie. you make a $1.00, you pay $.15 fed taxes. NO DEDUCTIONS FOR ANYTHING. The only item NON-TAXABLE is Social Security Benefits. Then there would be plenty of money for needy programs, Health Insurance, SSI etc.
Anyone here really beleives America is going to magically grow jobs at 125k pace per month when Romney takes office? I have a bridge to no where to sell ya (Sara Pallin wink).
With all the Cuts the GOP is proposing, middle class GOP, ya'll better SPREAD YOUR BED and make it very COMFORTABLE for a long poverty visit. Better yet, have send off party of the departure of the middle class on Nov. 1st and knock yourself out. Romney and David Gergen are going to invest in stores that sell banners that read: WELCOME POVERTY. So, there should be tons of that to go around.
Market gains have been a function of how much money has been injected in the economy. You should try correlating QE1, QE2 ect against the DJIA and you'll see what I mean. The way those and stimuli have been enacted (through sub-optimla central government fiat) caused the funds to flow into market and inflate those values. You're chasing a red-herring. What you should be asking is:
- Why is it that corporate cash balances have hardly ever been higher and companies would rather burn it under the mattress than invest it under this regime?
- why is it that we are putting more people on government support than on payrolls (regardless of what U2 "pretends" to show?
- Why is it that President Obama himself "did not care about what the market did" until he could massively influence its flows though monetary policy?
- What will President Obama do, once his "fairness tax" has addressed, a whooping 1% to 2% of the deficit and far less of the National debt to deal with the 98% balance of the problem. Whom will he tax then?
- if Obamacare is not a tax, why did trigger the hiring of about ~12K IRS agents to enforce it?
I applaud your (hopefully honest and well intentioned-I'll give you the benefit of the doubt) attempt at "tough" questions...but you need to move past "correlation" and get into "causation". Not at all the same thing sir.
Why are the men so jealous of Obama? Youn can just see it in their eyes when they look at him. What a sin!STOP BLAMING OBAMA! If people have constipation, they blame Obama! If they have credit card debt, they blame Obama! GET OVER IT, HE'S YOUR FRIGGIN PRESIDENT!!! Respect him! He's not the reason why the whole world is going to hell in a handbasket? WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FINANCIAL COLLAPSE AROUND THE WORLD? They are the ones that should be blamed, not Obama! WE NEED HEALTHCARE FOR EVERYONE, not just for the Rush Limbaughs and Sean Hannitys out there! WE COUNT TOO!
Just like someone posted earlier. what has Boehner done, or Cantor, or any other Rep Congressman but BLOCK, BLOCK, BLOCK? It is shameful that this is happening in America! They don't care about the citizens of this country, just the wealthy! SHAME on them!
Yup, gerome block, in jail for like the 6th time now it is called corruption at its finest with nepotism as an appetizer.
What can Obama do about hiring people? It is not up to him to hire; businesses are not hiring just so they can stick it to Obama! My sister applied for a job a year ago, got called back for a second interview and didn't get hired. Funny thing, that position is still available a year later! It's a crock! They DON'T WANT to hire!
Wolf, stop bashing Obama all the time!
STOP WITH THE OBAMA ROMNEY CRAP. Congress got us here. Obama and Romney and the issues are distracting you from the core of the evil. The deception and hipocrisy is overflowing and a few of us recognize it. The senate has been in collusion with big corporate giants for decades now. We are sold. They create the tax codes and laws so that these corps can go over seas and make more money. They are the architect of this hipocrisy and many others. Such as, the government and its millions of employees and thousands of programs are full of error and fraud. It all existed before Obama, but when some corrupt agency is exposed, lets blame it all on the president as if he is the creator of it all. Constantly deflecting the truth. The democrats arent innocent. They're all a bunch of liars and thieves. And you continue to line up like piguins in the ever corrupting system and do the exact same thing expecting a different result everytime. Your forefathers done it.. One man is not gonna persuade all the deeply rooted corruption to stop. Forget it. It's like putting someone into 6ft of sewage and getting angry b/c he got the sewage on him and voting for another. It's stupid. This whole primitive political system has to be replaced or severely revamped. ...the viscious drive to make money is the ROOT of all evil... the core... the heartbeat. This is what got Christ, the disciples and all the apostles snuffed out. End the corruption and delay christ coming.
.....call me a lunatic if you want.
I suspect LDS pelpoe like Obama for many of the same reasons that non-LDS like him. He is young, has charisma, is intelligent, etc. However, many LDS voters bring one additional factor in that they feel GOP candidates (McCain, but particularly Huckabee) were unusually and unfairly abusive of Mitt Romney. Many of us do feel it was a slap in the face and when it comes to voting, perhaps many aren't exactly in a turn-the-other-cheek mood.I wonder to what degree that uniquely-LDS +1 factor is playing a significant role.
Wolf, you did pretty good exposing Mr. Sununu's Republican bull. If an AD suggests that Romney is hiding something, it is because he doesn't want to release any tax returns before 2010. Is he hiding his tax dodges? What the common people don't get is that tax dodges are put there by the rich for the rich. It is like making stealing legal for special people then saying they are not doing anything illegal when they steal. The Republican motto is always lie and lie often. Sununu also stated that President Obama has never created a single job, yet millions were created under his administration while the public sector jobs have been reduced everywhere by Republicans. Presidents can only encourage jobs not make them.
Ron, so according to your own words, the 49 percent of Americans that legally paid no federal income tax last year because are thiefs?
Wolf, do your really have to ask that question after what the President said this weekend? My family has sacrificed their entire lives in order to build a successful business. No student loans for our kids, no quotas to reserve us a place in life, in fact we got nothing special from the government in return for all of the taxes that we actually paid. We did without many years and what we had we put back into the business year after year all the while helping out the local schools, police department, churches every time they came by for a handout. It's pretty clear to me at this point that the President doesn't share the values that my mother and father taught me. By the way, if the President is so keen on all Americans paying their fair share how about fixing the system that lets 49 percent of Americans pay nothing in federal taxes!!?
And another thing....do Americans actualy REALLY understand why the US is getting destroyed in the international business community? Why, exactly, are we losing jobs at the rapid rate? It is due in large part to SEVERE overregulation, disgusting corporate tax rates, non-existent tax incentives and people who think they are worth more than they actually are.
In 2011, over 1.6 MILLION individual and corporate tax returns were completed by INDIAN accountants. (Yes, India.) While American accountants demand sometimes $3k during peak tax season...an accountant in India only receives $300. (Yeah – that's 1000x more expensive.) Ever woner why we outsource IT jobs to India? Why can't you simply just talk to an American when you computer goes nuts? Simple. An IT engineer in India earns a typical annual salary of less
than $6,000. One with a master’s degree in business earns approximately $8,500. (Yeah – that's about one-tenth the level of their American counterparts.)
How is it that the "most eloquent and smartest president in history" not been able to graps this concept and lead us out of the quagmire? Uhhh...because he's ABSOLUTELY USELESS.
Debra: Thank you very much for stating the patently obvious both of your comments. No question there's a whole lot of pandering and blatant partisanship being exuded from the situation room and a few other shows. Perhaps CNN ought to consider a partnership with Fox. The words, media and unbiased, can no longer be used in the same sentence
Mr. Obama is absolutely anti-business in rhetoric and policy. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) account for nearly 98 percent of all U.S. exporters and nearly one-third of the total value of American exports. Even if you conservatively categorize SMEs as companies with fewer than 500 employees (which would ALL earn over $250k/yr),
an analysis of the Exporter Data Base reveals the following:
- SMEs accounted for 32.8 percent of the total value of U.S. exports in 2010.
- The total export revenues of SMEs was $308 billion.
- Overall, NAFTA countries represented more than 25 percent of U.S. merchandise exports by SMEs, valued at $90.5 billion. Canada purchased $49.6 billion in SME merchandise exports, followed by Mexico ($40.9 billion), China ($23.5 billion), Japan ($19.6 billion), the United Kingdom ($17.1 billion), and Germany ($12.9 billion).
- More than half of all SME exporters operate from a single location in the United States.
Good idea to raise taxes on these people who Mr. Obama claims are "not paying their 'fair' share?" You would be an absolute moron to do so. Yeah – even this 'Jar Head' has a little more intel than the Campaigner in Chief.
So what does this prove?? You do realize that small and medium sized businesses can also be public companies listed on the exchanges, right? The problem is no one ever provide sufficient evidence to show that specific Obama policies have hurt business to the point that would explain any of the negative economic conditions we are experiencing. Further, the biggest trading partner of the U.S. is Europe. A competent person would say that Europe's economic decline is the primary reason for declining U.S. exports. A not so intelligent person would say that it is because of Obama's evil brand of SOCIALISM!!!
Are you completely stupid? It proves that SMEs (which make up a CONSIDERABLE amount of the American economy) will be absolutely DEVASTATED by a tax increase of any kind. They aren't making the millions you morons think they are making...but they are definitely paying more of their "fair share" than you could ever afford. And by the way, Europe is NOT the top trading partner of the US. That distinction goes to Canada and Mexico with over 43%. The remaining top 11 of 15 countries COMBINED equal what we trade with Canada and Mexico each year.
Perhaps if you had done some homework you wouldn't sound so incredibly stupid? But I understand, you're simply trying to get some false information in hopes of proving...uh...no point whatsoever I suppose. Enjoy.
What is the basis for your claim that they will be devastated? How does U.S. tax policy impact foreign demand for goods? If there is foreign demand for goods, do you honestly think that a business would refuse to, or be incapable of meeting demand based on the prospect of higher taxes? What point does it prove to combine Canada and Mexico?
You provided a range of small and mid-size businesses where small businesses top out at 500 employees (although it can go higher depending on the industry) and you claim that us morons think they make more money than they actually do. I will concede the point that some business make more for their equity holders than others, but saying that SMEs will be devastated is an extremely broad generalization considering they include companies worth hundreds of millions and in some cases billions of dollars (e.g. Actuate Corporation, Invensense, Inc.) to companies holding a few McDonalds franchise locations raking in a few hundred thousand dollars a year. Granted there are some at the bottom of the food change that will find it difficult to weather even a minor blip on the economic radar, but a capitalist should appreciate the fact that the market share of the low hanging fruit will be gobbled up by the bigger fish.
If you want, you could always cut the argument short and point to a country that, in the face of severe economic conditions, ONLY cut massive amounts of government spending and was able to climb out in less than 4 years. You know what, I'll even give you 10 years. Unless of course you think the solution is massive spending and lower taxes, which believe it or not is exactly what Romney is going to do if he gets elected. Otherwise he is Herbert Hoover, a man known for producing economic results (heavy sarcasm added).
BTW, have you ever met a business person that, when faced with demand for their product or service, said they were unable to meet that demand because they may pay more in taxes in the future? If that person were a manager in one of my companies I would fire them immediately.
Ditto!!!! Well said No Knee Jerks. I have a production plant that makes and ships in the USA.
Beleive me when I say I care way more about what Europe is going to do about Greece and Spain than I care what ACA or taxes here will do to my business. I care more about what local government is doing to their employee payroll AKA middle class than taxes going up. Believe me, I care that Romney may have paid less taxes than me for the past 10 yrs because I don't have the ACROBATIC tax manipulation skills of Romney.
Do me a favor GOP and some Dems, stop whining about Obama wanting to do a little to help the middle class. If they get help, my business booms and livelihood improves....small business success depends on it.
Did Wolf just prove to us that Obama is really for the 1% (Wall Street) and not for the middle class (Middle Class)? This is breaking news.
yo wolf, where are the jobs man?? BO didnt do a thing to improve jobs, entitlement yes he did yo.
in my opinion yes yes yes he is anti business and he is trying to change america into a european country!!!!!
Margaret, the hawks in Vietnam did win the war. Hence, the Paris Peace Accords. Congress lost the war by unilaterally pilulng funding from our security investment in Vietnam. This communicated to North Vietnam that it could invade without reprise, which it opportunistically did (communism is nothing if not opportunistic).Victory in an undeclared war is no harder to define now than it was back when Thomas Jefferson embarked on America's first undeclared war by attacking Libya. Victory, in the case of Iraq, means a reduction in violence to 1st world levels and a reasonable measure of political stability. This is, to be sure, a tall order. Get used to it. Victory is hard. Defeat is easy anyone can lose, because (to paraphrase Bertrand Russell) there are infinite possibilities of failure, but few paths to success. Obama wants to take the easy way out: defeat. This is part and parcel of Obama's message: He will make everything easy. But this belies his rhetoric about hope. Genuine hope inspires us to achieve the impossible. Obama's counterfeit hope is, ultimately, the currency of losers.
Wolf, Your assertion that Obama is pro-business just because the market is up is ridiculous. Market prices are driven by market participants, and does not reflect economic reality. You need to plot the REAL value of assets based on what it's worth in purchasing power globally. The dollar has collapsed, so even though the market may be up so many points doesn't reflect how much less those dollars are worth. You cite that businesses have been making record profits during Obama's tenure, and that should prove that he's pro-business. Again, flawed thinking. Corporate profits are up because they have not been expanding, they have been doing the same with less people. Payroll is a business's largest expense. If you make less people do more work, your margins increase. Business has also been hoarding cash rather then re-investing in capital goods, expansion, and hiring people. Don't confuse a business's desire to be efficient with a good economy. Why don't you stick to the facts. Obama and the NLRB has not been business friendly. Obama has not been friendly to the energy industry. His policies have killed the recreational boat industry, tourism, general aviation, manufacturing, etc etc. come on, I thought your were smarter than this!
Thank you, hope wolf understands now.
I always assumed the rise in the stock market had more to do with the trllions of printed dollars flowing into the banks from Obama's printing presses. The banks were not lending that money so the best place to put it was into getting the DOW back above "6,000". The price of stock is not always tied to the productivity of a company.
Obama even offered a Job to Sestak to not run against Spector. That proves he's pro business.
Wolf, it very clear you are for Romney, as journalist you are trying help Romney. You should do justice to your public to investigating Romney tax returns and (dba) Bain capital 1999, 2000, 2001. Your backing a white guy who hiding his pass ask your salve what is Romney hiding, this should be right up your ally, because he is hiding something, remember Bush and Chaney.
what is romney hiding? really? romney? how about obama spending OUR tax dollars to keep his college records sealed? or his teaching records sealed? or why his social security number might be someone else's? why is obama hiding his past from the public? romney is a really rich guy, and? John Kerry is even richer but that wasnt as issue when he ran for pres. John F Kennedy was even richer than both of them but that didn't seem to bother you guys?
as for outsourcing jobs, you might recall how much obama love Emelt the CEO of GE, even put him on his jobs council and publically said Emelt had a lot to teach us about business. GE is an AMerican company that gets tax dollars from US taxpayers and yet has more than 50% of its employees outside the US at this point, AND keeps ALL its overseas profits overseas AND paid ZERO taxes for 2010. don't throw stones when you yourself live in a glass house.
Wolf, it is clear that those [the republicans] cannot stand to face the truth. What gets me though, is their so poor choice of people to be chosen as chairman, and to show up at an interviey like yours... Keep up the good work!
Really disappointed in the slanted reporting done here...how can you call yourselves journalists with such partisan slants on your stories?
Why no reporting on the Obama speech saying that small businesses that if they had a business they didn't build it government did and that government built the Internet..very tired of pandering journalism shown by the situation room
Because that tiny snippet was taken completely out of context. If you read that portion of his speech it's very clear that the message is, "Businesses don't grow prosperous out of thin air; it takes help – some of it from government and public resources – to ensure prosperity." It's a response to the "little or no government" GOP dogma that has taken the place of ideas and common sense in today's Republican party.
What does the Dow Jones, a small subset of American businesses, have to do with whether Obama is anti-business or not? The stock prices tanked due to the financial crisis, and have rebounded back to normal levels afterwards, none of which can be attributed directly to Bush's or Obama's economic policies.
Case in point: the Dow fell 14% directly after 9/11. Now, would Blitzer seriously ask whether or not this should be attributed to Bush's economic policies, and whether that's a good gauge of if he's anti-business or not? No, because it would be absurd, but that's what he is doing here.
Obama has presided over the slowest economic recovery in US history, with over 40 straight months of unemployment over 8%. Why hasn't the economy recovered as fast as it has done in the past, under Obama? Why is the unemployment at a stand-still, or even going back upwards? These are real-world gauges of whether Obama's policies are anti-business or not.
Blitzer is trotting out a red herring in the Dow Jones to pretend that there's nothing to the claims that Obama's created a toxic business climate. Just a few days after Obama said in a speech that people who've set up businesses can't credit themselves with having made them, it seems Blitzer is doing the bidding of the DNC in a pre-emptive attack before the RNC starts rolling out ads based on this slip by Obama.
The job recovery began to gather steam in 2009, which is precisely when the Tea Party came onto the scene and demanded Republicans trample any thought of stimulus. The GOP has nearly succeeded in filibustering the US back into recession. Under Barack Obama, private sector employment has risen respectably, while the public sector has shed nearly 700.000 jobs. Given the multiplier effect of every job lost, it's small wonder growth is slow.
Wolf, this is one of the stupidest questions/ accusations that keeps getting air-play. President Obama, by the way, is a millionaire. Hellooooooooo!!! Anyone home? If President Obama is now a millionaire, and he sure wasn't born that way, how could he possibly be anti-business??? Wolf, you surprise me sometimes. Some of your questions are the questions of someone who cannot connect the dots. Why would you put such a stupid question out there? Didn't you watch "MELT DOWN?" "THE DEATH OF LEHMAN BROTHERS?" "TOO BIG TO FAIL?" Is that the kind of business you are talking about? What has to happen before you wake up and stop being used as a stooge for republican propagandists? We are watching you, listening to you, and you sound like a fool when you make those stupid comments. Here is an assignment for you... HOME WORK! I want you to write an essay explaining how anyone could possibly become a millionaire while being anti-business. Go that? While your doing the asignment you might take a moment or two to reflect on the world around you. How did you ever survive in New York thinking like that?
If you're liberal, then votnig for Obama is a reasonable choice. If however your a conservative, Obama is not a logical choice. There will quite possibly be 3-4 Supreme Court Justices retire in the next 4-8 years. A conservative that would vote for anyone but the Republican nominee is blind to that fact. McCain is not my ideal choice, but as his mother suggests, I will hold my nose and vote for the man, because he is the only hope to put even mildly conservatie jurists on the Supreme Court. And with that, I'll pass. (Thanks Dan)
here is some homework for you! How did Obama make his millions. Let us know what you find out, and please dont hide the details, we will correct you
He is not just anti-business he is anti- anything that is not under government control. Every day his statements show more just how close his philosphy is to a European style socialist state. He doesn't care about anything, or anybody, except retaining power. The problem is he has a lot of the congressional democrats fooled too. In my opinion, nothing would please him more than to turn the United States into a socialist state like his admirer Hugo Chavez has in Venezuela.
Both Obama And Romney make me sick, Time for REAL Change – Johnson/Grey, Libertarian Party!
You are frustrated but voting for someone other than the two people that will be the next president will only add to your frustration.
jjohnsen: correct on Mrs. Clinton. Unforntunately, McCain has plteny of skeletons too, and worse than GW Bush's past heavy drinking. The dems tried to crucify Bush for that. The dems and the media aren't going to give McCain a pass in regards to his dirt. And in retaliation for the republicans dredging up dirt from Kerry's past, (in regards to his military service, and his traitorous behavior afterwards) the dems will see plteny of opportunity to return the favor in regards to McCain's military history and in his stance towards veterans post-Vietnam-war.
