(CNN) – Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz has been in Washington for high-level talks with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and other Obama administration officials, and Iran’s nuclear program is atop their agenda.
I asked him whether Israel was concerned about Iranian retaliation for the reports that Israel and the U.S. have undertaken joint cyberwarfare attacks against Iran’s nuclear program.
“We have to be prepared for all kinds of cyberattacks against the State of Israel,” he said, adding that Israeli military action was certainly on the table.
“We have to be prepared for all options, but at the same time, I believe that there are other ways to stop the Iranian nuclear program.”
He expressed hope that severe international sanctions that are supposed to begin next month will work.
“From my perspective,” he insisted, “the military option is the last option.”
I asked whether that military option would be an Israeli, U.S. or joint operation.
“It is an option,” he said. “The U.S. should prepare it. Israel should prepare it. I believe it should be the leadership of the United States, and I see the prevention of an Iranian nuclear program as the acid test of the Obama administration.”
On Syria, Mofaz minced no words. “I believe that Bashar al-Assad is a dictator that is leading genocide against his own people. He is slaughtering his own people. He is slaughtering innocent people within Syria, and he will not survive.”
Eventually, he said, there will be massive desertions in the Syrian military. “This is the end of Bashar al-Assad.”
On Egypt, Mofaz expressed hope that Muslim Brotherhood presidential candidate Mohamed Morsi would honor Egypt’s peace treaty with Israel if he were to take office. “He was very moderate during the campaign, and I hope that he understands the importance of the relationship with Israel and the fact that we have to safeguard the peace agreement between us.”

"I really don't care myself, who wins the elction in the USA, it won't change my life at all! It's just when I have to watch this happening, and you on the USA media are still trying to 'Hollywood and the Movies' Hollywood is Dead. and you're all looking like last centuries re runs. Europe will eventually get it right, because of history, but north America is so far away, and being swallowed up across the Pacific, the only one Ocean they ever really did own! All those millions of kids died in 1942-45 and you just sit and watch this idiot Obama????"
Wolf's response to Mary matalin about James baker showed courage and intelligence. Although I support Israel, it is clear that israel will become an apartheid state if current policies continue. The US has to have a foreign policy that is more than simply doing whatever short-term Israeli politics demands.
Who would have imagined, even 40 years ago, internatioinal battles being fought in cyber space? One thing that hasn't changed since the beginning of the human race, is the mentality of humans. What a waste.
I think that it is so naive to think even for one second that the islamic brotherhood will honor their deal with U.S.A or Israel and if the politicians look on all their situations right from the beginning they should have understood that this group never honoured their deals or words they said we only want 20% or 30% in the parlimanet then we will not run for presedincy and then go for it and so many other things all i can think of that america only cares about their benifite and they see that the moslem brotherhood will do them the great favoure when they take egypt down hill so isreal would not be worried from them .sorry to tell you that one day you will find out that your calculations were wrong it is alot better to have a better egypt than another iran
Wolf you keep pushing for the US to get into a war.
whenever i run into any mideast stuff, i want to head south. obama govt should do the same, and let them duke it out.
If Egypt recinds half the Treaty with Israel does it give back half the Sinai?
And return half the billions we gave them over the last 30 years?
Agreements do not mean much in Islamic Countries.
Wolf why dose USA have to be the policemen. We keep pouring money to Israel, and the other middle east country they keep fighting each like children, miss behaving so they can more aid from the USA.
You need to learn how to spell and learn more about Israel who is fighting to keep their country from being blown of the map.
