Gen. John Allen, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, tells Wolf Blitzer the U.S. soldier who allegedly killed 16 Afghan civilians acted alone.
"This is under investigation" he said, "but this appears it was an action of a single soldier."
In the exclusive interview on "The Situation Room," Allen confirmed the U.S. military is taking the lead on the investigation.
"We will certainly keep the Afghan government informed throughout this investigation," he explained, "but this individual will be investigated and the outcome will be in accordance with U.S. law."
Allen offered his sincere condolences to the victims, their families and the Afghan people.
"This is tremendously regrettable. We are investigating it aggressively and we will hold the individual accountable should the evidence point to his culpability here."

What bothered me the most about this was when Wolf Blitzer interviewed Romney regarding staying in Afghanistan. Romney called this soldier a "crazed, degenerate" several times during the interview....so in my opinion, Romney is calling all our soldiers that have PTSD, crazed degenerates....I'd like to see Romney deal with 5, 6, 7 tours of duty and see if he doesn't come back a "crazed, degenerate"
"There is a compleat breakdown in control of the military in Afghanistan, and Obama won't accept it. He know's nothing about how the military works; and he has the high-rank looking for escape hatches. It's become another Sigon and those kids are being pushed too far. All those drugs the military are passing around isn't going to save this one. "
Wolf –when you get going tonight –try not to add all that drama by calling the race–it is important but you tend to go overtop on making predictions. You need to contain your enthusiams so as to present a more balanced broadcast. And do not do any more debates as the moderator–I believe you let all the candidates off without answering your specific questions and they all took advantage–just do one on one inteviews. Thanks for hearing my two cents..
I cringe everytime Wolf say Afghani instead of Afghan people and government. Seriously after all this time and you still use it inaccurately – Afghani (is the currency).
