Some counties to secede from California?

Fed up with the rest of the state, some citizens are pushing a radical plan for 13 counties to secede from California.

Conservatives in southern California not wanting to pay their fair share of taxes, it seems? Riiiight. I can't help but think this is a sinister Republican idea to try and break the Dem's electoral hold on the state (55 electoral votes, right?) for the presidential race, and let a Republican actually win the state.

I'd prefer the south as in the southern US just go ahead and secede, but being from San Francisco, I can understand the heart behind the state of California wanting to split. We are an entirely different animal from southern California up here. It is sort of funny though, as we could just make Orange County and Central California stop acting like uptight, judgemental idiots and start being laid-back like they're supposed to act in California (fruits and nuts, ya know?). Or better, make them just move to the REAL south, as they act like a bunch of redneck jerks. Just raise their taxes, and they'll shut up...

One of my favorite ideas for California is to cede the southern half or so back to Mexico. We took it unjustly by conquest in the first place, and the Mexican government certainly couldn't do a worse job of governing the place.

Please, please do it. It will be one of the funniest things I would ever get to see in my lifetime.

Most idiotic ideas in this country gain support. Big deal.

This is an "I don't wanna pay taxes for anything" movement. I think we should let anyone who doesn't want to pay any taxes should be forced to move to Alaska and pay no taxes. Or we can disband the military and government and then those who don't want to pay any taxes can defend the US from China and Al-Qaeda.

It's time these people lean what it means to be a Nation...to be a country of people, and cut out the greedy crap. Time to care for your neighbors and get their back. But they don't want to do that..as they are the first ones to put grandma in the nursing home(at medicare's expense). Selfishness is a SIN people!

Nicely said. It's time people recognize we're on the same Team USA.

You are obviously some simpleton from the backwoods of jerkwater, nc. A card-carrying dnc zealot. You have no idea of the problems in California. It is not that people mind paying taxes it is that they mind paying a ton of taxes and things like roads and bridges never get fixed yet every 3rd world reject gets every benfit under the sun thrown at them. It is the fact the politicians in this state live like royalty and this state has the absolute worst problem of dealing with union labor.

The US won't recognize it. Better idea–Let's give the secessionist counties back to Mexico. We can send a card along with the deed.
